Erm no. The competition between promotional companies is better for the athletes as they can accept alternative offers. It is also beneficial for the fans as you have to put more effort into putting on a good show.

It would be similar to what happened with wrestling in the early 00s onward. WCW provided healthy competition when it got bought out things went down hill quickly.

In general Golden Boy puts out a better product than Top Rank.

But you don't want any one promoter to have a monopoly (unless you like the UFC model.) Competition is usually better for the fighters and the fans.

I don't think near as much of Golden Boy as you do. I don't want to see them get a monopoly and I want Top Rank to stay in business. I don't think one is better or really much different than the other. Golden Boy has lots more fighters though. It's good for fighters to have some other promoters to turn to if they feel they are not being treated right by their current promoter. Schaefer plays favorites. Look at the difference in the way he treats Khan compared to Mattysse or the way he treats Canelo compared to Lara. If he gave Matthysse and Lara the special treatment he gives Canelo and Khan they would probably be champions right now.

I think there would be some merit in promotional companies having control over divisional neighbourhoods, like 140-154 and 118-135 etc. But that's something that's in a constant state of flux and such control would always be temporary at best.

I have to say I don't really see what makes GBP any better than Top Rank either. Perhaps the only significant difference is that they don't have an obvious hate figure like Arum, yet.

Apart from that it seems to be the same bullshit you get from both of them. Which is hardly surprising, given that it's the same business environment they both operate in.
