Hell no. Just to step in the ring takes the utmost amount of courage. Respect to even the lowest ranked fighters.

Anyway I agree with the list. A lot of those guys made a fuckton of money in their careers and blew it all away.

The thing is, the ones that went punch drunk didn't know it was gonna happen to them, that they had no control over it but going broke is their fault. No sympathy for that.

Good point that I also wondered about that. I hear so much about the so called face first fighters like Margarito. Yet he still has all of his marbles. The so called slick defensive specialist like Whitaker or James Toney can't even put a coherent sentence together. Then again, they had trouble doing that before they stopped fighting.

Yes my friend, I agree. I have no sympathy for a fool or dummy with his money. They self imploded on their own.

Mexicans are a rare breed. You'd think JCC Sr. would have brain damage by now. The guy looks like he's still in his early 40's, and looks and sounds perfectly healthy.

The only Mexican brawler that has slurred speech is Rios, but honestly, he always sounds like that.

You have clearly never been in a boxing gym in Mexico to make that statement

              Ali-punch drunk
              Ray Robinson-broke, punch drunk
              Pernell Whitaker-punch drunk
              James toney-punch drunk
              Jimmy Young-punch drunk
              John Tate-punch drunk
Shane Mosley-punch drunk, steroids, damaged legacy
              Roy Jones jr-damaged legacy?
              Joe Louis-broke, punch drunk
              Thomas Hearns-broke, punch drunk
              Rid**** Bowe-broke, punch drunk
              Mike Tyson- broke
              Sonny Liston-damaged legacy
Meldrick Taylor-broke, punch drunk, damaged legacy
              Joe Frazier-broke,punch drunk
              Michael Dokes-broke, punch drunk
              Floyd Patterson-punch drunk
Jack Johnson-broke, hung on too long

There are many more but I think I made my point that boxing can be tragic and these fighters are an example. Not smart enough to walk away when they should have and many could not handle their finances correctly. Boxing needs a solid pension plan and hopefully we'll see that in the future.

However, some fighters were intelligent enough to walk away with their money and health. They deserve accolades.

              Carlos Monzon
              Ricardo Lopez
              Rocky Marciano
              Joe Calzaghe
              Jack Dempsey
              Gene Tunney

The question remains: When a fighter hangs on too long, does it damage their legacy?

              Dam that is really unfortunate.
The greatest defensive boxer ever period.

There's a lot of white fighters throughout history that went through brawls for most of their careers and are/were still well spoken. But now with advanced technology hopefully it cuts down the amount of fighters who actually get to the point of James Toney or Meldrick Taylor.

Pavlik and Katsidis were both able to retire before the damage was too much.

Now with advanced PED's, might not help.

I was born in San Pedro, Monterrey Mexico. I have been lucky enough to have worked out in boxing gyms around the world and the boxing gyms in Mexico by far have the highest percentage of fighters and ex-fighters that have pugilistic dementia
