  • I cant believe people are actually discussing a possible matchup.

Anyways, I thought Ward would take the high road on this but this was a good opportunity for him to get some buzz going and gain some fans, which it has.

Even SRL admitted he made the rematch ASAP cause he knew Duran would be out partying too much to be in shape come fight night. Floyd would not be able to keep prime Duran off him at all, and he'd shred that defense to pieces. And Wilfredo Benitez was also known as a GREAT defensive fighter and would easily OWN this era of Welters.. Floyd's never faced anyone remotely close to the level of skill, mental and physical toughness of Duran or Benitez.

It's very easy to talk smack about Corrales now but at that time a true boxing fan knows he was a beast. Dude was a 6 foot 130 pounder smashing everything in site. He was a true Jr-light-wt Hitman Hearns!!! Duran was a beast at the lower weights but he was beatable. Corrales before Mayweather looked unbeatable. Benitez couldn't punch, was as slick as they come but Floyd would've beat him, would've been a tough fight but you can't get mental lapses against Floyd and Benitez had a habit of getting them. Duran could definitely be out slicked. No one could beat him at his own game but as Ray Leonard showed a mental tactician could beat Duran and Floyd is probably one of the best if not the best at that.

Duran's are well documented. Let's just look at the facts. Mayweather hasn't even rehydrated to 154lbs let alone weighed in at that much. People are cool without Pacquiao not fighting someone at 154lbs he already beat because..... well.... he said he doesn't want to but Mayweather's ducking a super middleweight? Consistency please.
"Last time I checked, Marvin Hagler wasn't a super middleweight and Duran wasn't a super feather."

Ok, and Duran fought Hagler at his natural weight while Ward's willing to drain himself to 160.. What's the problem? And when Duran fought Hagler at middleweight he actually came in at 156 and stood his ground against one of the most ferocious middleweights of all time.. You're telling me Floyd can't make it to 156 or 157 to fight a weight drained Ward?.. If so, what's the excuse as to why he can't meet Sergio at 154??? Consistency please.

"People are cool without Pacquiao not fighting someone at 154lbs"

Not me.. Matter fact I think Pac should fight Cotto at 154 in his next fight. Would be a great match between two fighters in desperate need of a win.

          "Mayweather's ducking a super middleweight?"

Never said he's ducking a middleweight.. I said he could make it happen if he really wanted too... That's what the greatest fighters do, they take risks.

Again, Ray Leonard beat an out of shape Duran and has even admitted so. Duran in shape smashed Leonard. You have a right to your opinion, after all it's just fantasy fighting and we'll never know for sure, but I think a majority of true boxing fans would disagree with you.

true boxing fans would know that durans prime losses were to kirkland laing and esteban dejesus, both boxers with longer reach than duran. In fact all of duran's prime losses were to fighters with longer reach. floyd's reach 72" duran's reach 66/67".

Not a triangle theory just an interesting factoid that many "true" boxing fans overelook. in fairness, duran beat all of them too.

then how do you explain this??

Andre Ward : “Lil Floyd says he spars middleweight. He is the only man I will sacrifice coming to 160 for. He won’t take that bait.”

Mayweather defends his title against Ward's close friend, Robert Guerrero, on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

One thing about the fight game is if someone takes a fight out of shape who's problem is that? Aint nobody tryna hear the BS!!! Guess Duran was out of shape when Hearns KO'd him too? Duran and Leonard fought 3 times, Ray won the last 2. No excuses!!!! If a fighter is not in shape come fight time he deserves to lose!!!!
