He doesn't he's just patient and doesn't do any unnecessary attacking.
He's TOO patient Kev, he stands there waiting for openings for far too long, and Trout is always pumping out his jab (even if just for range finder). Seems like Canelo waits until his opponent isn't punching (not like a counter puncher) to throw his punches and a lot of times he's too far out. When he throws those power punches from too far out, he looses his balance with those wild shots and I think Trout can capitilize on that. Trouts always gonna be moving and using the jab and that's gonna tire Canelo out and frustrate him when he's missing. And Trout can take a punch very well. I just rewatched the Trout/Cotto fight and he rolls his head when he's hit so there's less impact. But he was also caught with a few good straight impact punches and they didn't seem to faze him. I think Trout is under appreciated, his skills are subtle but he's gonna be recongnized after he beats Canelo (I hope he doesn't get jobbed on the scorecards). I might get harassed for saying this but I can see Trout coming up to be a lot like Ward. Trout is versitile and can adjust to his opponent very well.
I'm anticipating this fight more than any other announced so far, I can't wait. That being said I like both guys but I think I'm going to go with Trout in this one. Canelo is taller than I thought he would be next to Trout so the height/reach advantage may not have as much of an affect as I thought it would. Still... Canelo has fought far too many smaller fighters and I think he will overrate his power like Cotto did at least in this fight.
As far as Trouts power, he has respectable power enough to keep you from coming at him with no fear of his power. He won't KO but he'll make you ask yourself do I want to get hit again and that's enough for the type of fighter he is. Overall though I just think that Trout being a southpaw is the biggest issue for Canelo, especially given Trout is slick as well it's a tough fight for anyone. Trout also has A LOT more experience than Canelo 200+ amateur fights and being in the ring with Cotto and winning is never a bad thing for your skills or confidence.
The height difference (or lack of) is deceiving because of the upshot camera angle. I think there is a significant difference in size. Trout is a very tall LMW and Canelo a very stocky LMW.
I'm here to tell you, canelo doesn't pressure, cut the ring off, or rough people up like some claim. He tries to act patient, & act like a counter puncher, he tires, but most importantly, shot & small fighters have hit him easily.
People say he has more power. I challenge that. He's faced only 1 remotely decent jr middleweight & he couldn't stop him. But that guy retired right after, (shot). Trout has the movement, speed, stamina, timing, I mean you name it, Trout has it.
Personally, I think Canelo does have more power, but everything else I have to agree with. Maybe he can put it all together and be the better fighter, but I just see this being a very tough fight for him to win. I'd definitely pick pick him over everyone else at 154 besides Floyd, if anybody considers him a 154 pound fighter.
He doesn't he's just patient and doesn't do any unnecessary attacking.
That's just the impression I get. I hope he can really turn it up when he has to. If he can't, then maybe he does have stamina issues. De La Hoya was like that.
