Voluntarily responding to Floyd's taunts is one thing. It's another thing being pressed on the issue by eager reporters during public training sessions, boxing sites calling for a response.

If he didn't respond when reporters are pressing him on it, then it would just come off as forced.

True that is why it doesn't make any sense for him to want to squash this for now. He has nothing to talk or for them to call about to keep his name out there other than rehab junk which no one really cares about.

Once he is back and has a fight lined up, there will be less of those questions but they will still be there but at that point he can logically continue on as any publicity is good publicity or squash it as he got the desired effect then gets the benefit of ending it on good terms.

This thread is not about Floyd~ it is about Ward's response that I found kind of fake and disingenuous, that is exactly what I talked about for the most part. Floyd is Floyd, this is pretty much par for the course for him so what is there to talk about plus there is a whole thread about Floyd's comments that talk can stay there.

I find in boxing that very little gets said without a reason, I find getting to the bottom of that reasoning to be very enlightening about the nature of the sport but I can be wrong.

If that was the reason for his statements he'd trash him as a fighter and belittle his recent accomplishments. To be truthful I think people are blowing things out of proportion in the sense that Mayweather is only saying what a lot of neutrals and in some cases Ward's own fans have said in the passed. Only part I found unnecessary was the ''Melt down his medal and turn it into a medallion''.

That said I'm in agreement with Ward, Mayweather should have spoken to him directly.

Maybe you are right. It just seems like Floyd does not like a fighter being considered a better fighter than himself or people saying a fighter might beat him even at 154. He was hard on Pacquiao earlier but now that few think Pacquiao can beat him he does not talk about Pacquiao much. Some people think Canelo would beat Floyd at 154 and he just trashed Canelo.
