Maybe not better after 40...but at 48 he has done something remarkably impressive that has never been equaled by any other 48 year old athlete period...and I doubt ever will be again. George Forman's win at 45 came with a badly swollen face as it often was at he end of his fights in his 2nd career. Hopkins by contrast didn't even look like he had been in a fight at the end of it and was fresh with energy. If you notice there has been quite a lot of buzz about him since Sat night's win...look at all the threads about him. I thought it was yet another one of his defining fights that highlight his talents...and at 48 it's just never like that.

Yes, which is why I stated that it's his opponent selection and mystique of being over 40 years old (that makes his wins look more impressive).
His over 40 wins are Pavlik, Tarver, Wright, Cloud and Pascal.
I'm not here to diminish those wins, but pre-40 Hopkins has better wins.
Oscar at 156 is a better win than all of those if you take the age factor away. Oscar is more well rounded and skilled than all of those guys (you can make a case for Wright but he fought Winky (a career 154lber at 170lbs).
Trinidad win was better than any of those, and I think beating Joppy was more impressive than beating Cloud and Pascal.
Now what makes those wins great is the fact that people saw his age and thought he was done (against Pavlik)Comment

(Raises hand about Pavlik)
I thought Pavlik would be able to stop B-Hop.
No excuses.
Thought he had the power, and the output of punches to do so.
One of my finest moments on here.Comment

I`v e been saying that Hopkins is still in his prime but just because he lost to Dawson people accuse Hopkins or being badly faded when in reality Dawson is a very good fighter whose hard to look good against.Comment

Nope, he is probably smarter yeah but physically he is worse...it's only his brain that is still allowing him to be successful at this age. If he fights Ward he loses and maybe Dawson again. Picking smart match ups is key for him.Comment
