Comments Thread For: Thurman: Malignaggi Won't Fight a True Welterweight

Top welterweight Keith "One Time' Thurman (20-0, 18KOs) told BoxingScene.com that he was not surprised with the recent news that WBA champion Paulie Malignaggi had agreed to face Adrien Broner on June 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Broner, the WBC's champion at 135-pounds, would move up by two divisions to face Malignaggi. In the opinion of Thurman, the welterweight champions out there are not looking to fight true welterweight contenders and would rather fight smaller guys moving up.

    uhh, what was Senchenko?

The alternative to Broner was his mandatory Diego Chaves, another career welterweight that Malignaggi was trying to make a fight with.

Screw Thurman, he's another trash fighter being overly forced on us by hbo and haymon.

How the hell yu gonna act tough by calling out malignaggi and sayng he won't fight a true welterweight. Malignaggi isn't even a true welterweight!

Thurman is on some real corward type ish.

It is time to get yourself and a mandatory position Mr. Thurman. please stop complaining. Paulie is older and on the way out. it does come a time in a fighters career where his cash should come first. He went to the freaking Ukraine to go get that title for Christs sake! Let him make the most money he can from it as long as he doesnt duck his mandatory without working out a deal with him.

Broner is far more dangerous than Thurman is IMO. Broner's toughest fights are at 140 and I do want him to go back there after this fight. I also cannot blame Malignaggi for taking the Broner fight. He is near the end of his career and Broner will get him a higher paycheck.

Why is he calling out the weakest beltholder in the division?

He's Bradley's mandatory right now which means that fight can go to purse bid to eliminate the promotional issues. Why is he not pushing for that fight?
