Plain and simple, they felt he was asking for more money than what they felt he was worth at this point in his career. Obviously he wanted a long term guaranteed money contract. At this point, how many high profile blockbuster fights are out there for Floyd in order for HBO to guarantee him $30-40mil per fight? It was too risky for HBO to make that gamble and as a result they rather lose him then lose out financially in the long run.
I agree with this. I'm not the least bit surprised that Showtime would sign on Floyd simply because that's the biggest name they've had for a long while. But when you really look at the landscape, there's MAYBE 2 big fights (Alvarez, Martinez) that can be made and those aren't guaranteed. So Showtime is going to pay Floyd huge even if he fights B/C level competition because they most likely gave him a guarantee.

but there is an out after the 1st fight. I think HBO was right to let floyd bounce-I hated when networks made deals with fighters. It always felt like the judgin and announcing were compromised.

Wasn't personal...it was a money decision full stop.
