Apart from Guerrero doing the same,
I don't see many fights for Broner at 140, not in June.
Matthysse would make no sense now, it'd be an interesting match up if he wins the IBF belt.
Khan is rebuilding his carreer, and his next fight isn't at 140 if I remember.
Garcia is fighting Judah, unless it gets cancelled.
The only thing that I can hold against Broner is not clearing 130 or 135, but with his name becoming popular, I'm not surprised by his choice.
As for the fight in itself, I'm curious to see how Broner will prepare for the bout. It seems to me that he is getting more and more of an offensive fighter, eager to trade on the inside, and less and less of a counter-puncher ala Floyd.Comment

Easy payday for Broner more exposure and a belt. I have him beating Garcia as well if they meet up and would love to see Broner vs Matthysse. I'm sure he can easily move down to 140 for more big fights.Comment

I agree with you on this going to a decision. Paulie is slower and never was a good puncher at 140 but Broner may be unable to get to his chin enough to matter. Paulie can take a punch and can back-peddle if it gets too hot in the last few rounds.
Broner is shorter and less experienced, so it is possible Paulie outboxes him, but I think he will get the nod anyway and touch him enough with flashy combos to make the difference in the fight.
I have no problem with this fight and I am interested to see if he comes in under 144lb to stay close to Jww so he can move back after. No point in staying at WW at his age if he has to suffer losses to Cotto, Mayweather or one of the big guys.
This is good experience for him to learn against a seasoned and bigger guy and if he can take that to 140 he can make some real waves there.Comment

People, this is a gimmick fight. Much like RJ-Ruiz and Pac-DLH. Broner is not hanging staying at welterweight. For starters, it would put way too much pressure on him to fight Floyd and you know he aint gonna do that. And secondly, and probably most important, he's not physically ready to compete in the division. He and GBP are just in a situation where he has no opponents that will generate any interest for the summer date. And he can't afford another Rees. They have to do something drastic to keep interest high in Broner. And right now, they have a very safe welterweight beltholder to put Broner in with that will generate interest in this date. This is just all the stars aligning for a good event. Paulie is gonna make for a great prefight build-up. Jumping two divisions will always sell to the casual fans. Let's just enjoy this one. The build-up will likely be far more entertaining than the fight. And let's reserve judgement on Broner's choice of opponents till after this one. There should be some very attractive options for him this fall/winter.
BTW, kudos to the kid for staying active. He's quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in the sport. And I think its flat out awesome that he's fighting three times a year. Let's hope this trend continues and he doesn't follow in his hero's footsteps and do the once a year crap.Comment
