Comments Thread For: Malignaggi: Broner is Biting Off More Than He Can Chew!

As BoxingScene.com reported on Saturday night, WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22KOs) intends to move up by two weight divisions to challenge Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7KOs) for the WBA welterweight title in an HBO televised main event, likely on June 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi, who has started training camp at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, confirmed to BoxingScene that he’s confident Broner will suffer the first loss of his career if they step in the ring.

Not the best move - the kid is jumping a stacked division, and getting a title shot befor the likes of a kell brook, kieth thurman, maidana, and there are more - I kno its been done B4 but you usually have a good resume to warrant the move, only name on his resume is demarco

That is why he jump to 147 with a menu of Floyd, Robert Guerro, Marquez, Timothy Bradley....you know everyone who would beat anybody at 140. And eventually those fighter will move up to 147.

140 is filled with unproven fighters with majority of them are hype jobs. Remember how 140 was supposed to be deepest in talent last year. Well they moved up to 147.

The bad thing is between 130-135, Broner only has two good wins, Ponce and DeMarco. The good thing is that by 23 years old Broner could have wins over Ponce, DeMarco, Malingaggi, and 3 titles in 3 weight classes already.

But I would have liked to see Broner hang around 135 for Abril, Burns, and possibly Gamboa. As far as 140, there's no reason if Broner comes in light around 141/142 like his trainer was saying, that he can't go down to 140 and fight there, or end up fighting those guys at 147 later on anyway.

Still though, Broner is disappointing me a little bit. At 130, I wanted him to fight Salgado and/or Mendez. And at 135, I wanted him to fight Abril and/or Burns.

People saying how can I hate on this fight just because Broner jumping 2divisions but let's be serious.... He's fighting Paulie. Weakest puncher at 147. Garcia, Matthysse and even Khan at 140 is more dangerous then Paulie. What happens after he beats him? I hope he stays and fights some ****ers. Idk if Oscar would do this but I'd like to see Broner fight Ortiz or Josesito.
