Tszyu came back in late 2004 and fought Mitchell, while Floyd positioned himself for a fight against the #1 JWW contender at the time, Gatti. Floyd-Gatti was made and Tszyu-Hatton was made. Hatton beat Tszyu, Floyd destroyed Gatti.

After Floyd-Gatti, Top Rank publicly said Floyd-Cotto wasn't going to happen because Cotto "wasn't ready". And Floyd-Hatton didn't happen because Hatton and co. wasn't ready yet either. Hatton really only got serious about fighting Floyd in 2006 after Floyd moved up to 147, and they fought in 2007 when both were prime and unbeaten.
