Ponce is a bad move for just about any fighter looking to be a star, but a good choice for any fighter looking to be great (If you can beat him).

You don't even have to beat him. Its good for a young fighter getting that kind of experience by fighting him. Even if everyone says he beat you, in the long run you gain more than you lost. In this case, Mares will have the whole going up in weight excuse if he loses. I give him props for taking on Ponce no matter what happens in there.

I mean Yuriorkis Gamboa toyed with PDL and Lopez took him out in one round.

Gamboa started at 130, Mares started at 118. Not to mention his style is elusive, complete opposite from Mares

Lopez is a one-punch knockout artist, Mares is not.
