Not a bad move at all. A RISKY one yes, but Mares is true fighter that challenges him self & isn't afraid to go in with anybody! Wish we had more like him. It's fights like this that make boxing what it once was.

Mares is going to low blow, headbutt, and rabbit punch Ponce into the ground.

Mares made the wrong move here, Ponce can punch and seems bigger than him, I'm going with the bigger guy in this one, the fouls will not help him this time and he is going to get hit very hard, like never before...

              He's daring to be great.

              Love that mindset.

A risky move, but a great decision IMO. If he wins, he's definitely one of the best P4P, looking to fight the best guys and moving up in weight to fight bigger, stronger guys.
If he loses, then PDL was too big. Mares actually has very little to loose but a lot to win.

I applaud his decision, no ducking shit, just good fights without fear of loosing. Just look at his resume, Vic, Agbeko 2X, Perez, Moreno and now fighting also PDL. He has the second best streak of top opponents behind Froch's streak.

Since when did Ponce De Leon become a monster?

Last time I checked he got trashed by Juan Manuel Lopez in one round.

                      Mares wins this pretty easy.

I mean Yuriorkis Gamboa toyed with PDL and Lopez took him out in one round.

Now I'm not saying PDL is a bum, but he isn't elite and not this monster that NSB is making him out to be. Mares is by far more talented than him and his fights against Moreno and potentially Donaire are by far tougher test.

Maybe Gary Russell, or Chris John present problems for Abner at 126 but people seem to have amnesia when it comes to certain fighters.

Now if we were talking Mikey Garcia, then I would agree that Mares would be in trouble, but not from some average C class fighter named Ponce De Leon.
