    Negotiations for Taylor-Wright break down

    Taylor-Wright talks break down!
    By Karl Freitag

Talks between the camps of middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and top challenger Winky Wright have reached an impasse. "They asked for 50% of the money and 50% of the control. That is not happening," Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella told *********.com. "I made them an incredibly fair deal which is better than they would get in a purse bid with the WBC. HBO offered $5 million total and wouldn't come up a dollar. I offered Winky $3 million. I'm taking the risk on the site, too. I am not giving them 50% control.....There's no further room to negotiate because we know what the numbers are. We both have our positions. I hold no animosity toward Winky, Gary Shaw (Wright's promoter) or Jim Wilkes (Wright's manager). They have to do what's in their fighter's best interest. I have to do what's in my fighter's best interest."

    Wow, between DiBella and HBO......

Oh Okay. So It's winky and his team who is screwing up.

50% purse and 50% control? What the **** are these people thinking? Winky is just a legitimate challenger. He doesn't have a title and he is not the main draw.

A nice way to say they don't really want the fight.

Talking of Winky/Soliman, Winky is demanding that much from the Champ after his not so impressive performance against Soliman?

        Funny ****!

I think WInky snapped to his senses and realizes it might be risky to fight in Taylor's home town. So isntead he'll make a deal that seems almost rational to basic sports fans but is utterly crap in reality. He'll get out of AK and and able to take him on at a later date in a venue that wont be as harsh on him.

winky is smart, like sturm, he wanted big money and some insurance, and if possible wanted this fight out of little rock, no top middleweight in his right mind would ever want to fight taylor in his back yard, if they would rob hopkins twice why would they even hesitate to rob another fighter in AK, told all u idiots this before, taylor is gonna end up fighting a lower ranked guy then when have to fight another top dog away from his home.

                  Felix Sturm blinds you...

Secondly if wright didnt want to go to little Rock he shouldnt have ****ing said he did, and pushed for the mandatory, instead of taylor facing a stay busy fight in AK as should have been the case.

my point is why is HBO only putting up a moderate $5 million for basically "the" top middleweight contest in the division right now?

i think Wright's team is probably asking for too much overall, but kind of like Gomez was saying, if it were me, i wouldn't let my opponent getting "home-field advantage" be the difference in my career without making sure its money in my pocket.

Honestly, whether Wright can beat Taylor or not, it's understandable if Wright wouldn't want it in Little Rock just as much as Taylor wouldn't want the fight in St. Petersburg. Let's not be brain-washed by DiBella's non-stop praise of his champion, i think Taylor's, again, getting more credit than he's earned up to this point.

Bottomline, whether you're pro-Taylor or pro-Wright, we'll now just have to wait and see over the next couple days/weeks how it unfolds and what fight(s) will be made.
