yes i do, ive been competing for 8 years. I shouldve gone pro about 3 years ago but life happens and bills need to be paid. This is my latest fight, its me at the 2012 adidas national (white guy, blue gloves). i normally compete at 165 but this is me in the lhw (178) division. this is the semi final bout, i took 2nd.

Used to from 11-15, but was much better at rugby and got to represent North England, and even got offered England trials at under 18's (didn't come close to passing though lol) and ended up going that route, i wouldn't mind boxing at some point again, still just 24.

amateur boxing is quite safe. Much safer than most contact sports. Probably safer than lifting heavy weights.

Boxed in my teens, had a few amateur fights. My social life got in the way. There were things in life outside of the gym I thought I was missing out on. As a result my focus/training suffered and once I found myself just going through the motions I decided to quit.

Teddy Atlas talks a lot about quitting in his book (Atlas:from the streets to the ring) and what it feels like to never know what could've been. While he was talking mostly about quitting in the ring (which I've never done). what he said about compromising your integrity and once you make the decision to quit it becomes easier to do and you start to justify it over time, really struck a chord with me. Too late for me now at a competitive level at least. Something I missed out on

For anyone younger than me reading this, if you are serious about pursuing this.
This sport is not something you can half ass. Be honest with yourself. And if you still feel its something you want... TAKE IT ! There are no hand outs !

This thread got me EMO for some reason lol

I used to box. I was a very good boxer i had a short amature carrier ...at the age of 16 i had a baby boy and broke up with the mother and took my boy and to this day hes 16 he has always lived with me.... i was still boxing at a p.a.l boxing gym in the bronx and then was transfer to gleason gym by this police officer and there i met with a professional boxer in the heavyweight division called kalid washington who introduce me to zab judah and his brothers and pops....i sparred with junior jones and other professional boxers like emmanuel lucero who got knockout by paquiao...... I learn alot and i dont brag but i know had i kept boxing i would have been champion of the world im sure of that.....i was very fast had a great punch and i could take one aswell ive been in alot of gym wars just for the fun of it and just to see the heart and to test myself..i then had to stop boxing cause it was hard to box and go to school and work and run...ect ...but i thank god cause he gave me 4 boys and now i can teach them some of the thing i learned i had god given talent im what you guys call a natural talented boxer...i could slug i had great boxing skills i meen i was so fast its unbelievable...now i spar with my boy hes 16 hes almost 6 feet tall im 32 and i still feel young im just not the same weight i was 15 years ago but im still fast man sometimes i feel i could still do it but im gonna try to live my dream thru my kids cause they love boxing and i teach them alot and i spar hard with my big boy alot...i love boxing and boxing is always gonna be a part of my life...ooyea and by the way i have recorded about 6000 boxing fight on vhs. Fights ive been to delahoya vs leija, cotto vs clottey, dawson vs hopkins 2 and i got tickets to see judah vs garcia.....

I never boxed. I used to train at a local gym, everything but sparring as getting hit in the face just wasn't for me. I'm not ashamed to say it takes the kind of guts I didn't have to step between those ropes which is why I have at the very least a modicum of respect for anyone that has or does, especially for a living and would never use the "c" (coward) word to describe them, no matter how I felt about them.

I still jump rope everyday to keep fit (boxing, not double dutch). Good luck to anyone in the sport or looking pursue a career in boxing.
