Not saying he's a real threat, he's probably too slow. But he's not a bum.

Cool, another nothing defense. It's now seven years since he fought Marquez. Guess there just haven't been any good featherweights to fight since then

Can't wait for the day his cherry picking backfires and gets KTFO like that other Asian dude Sonny Boy Jaro KOed. I forgot his name now.

Wonjongkam was one of the greatest flyweights of all time. He was past his prime when he lost to Jaro.

Anyways The hate on Chris John is ridiculous.

I'm not gonna get into this discussion but let's just say I disagree...

Wonjongkam was on a pretty good roll heading into Jaro too with wins over Miranda, Kameda, Sor Rungvisai, and Sosa. That added to the shock factor. When he fell off, he fell like a rock off a mountain.

As to John, he's had some iffy defenses but Hosono is a solid guy who has only had one bad loss (lopsided D to CC). This isn't a bad fight at all. It's not epic or anything, but it's hardly worth criticizing.

He does tend to fight a lot of bums but he beat marquez, i've watched a few of his fights and he's a pretty good boxer who always entertains. As for being a "paper champ", i agree but look at American boxing.....same **** different continent.

His numbers are inflated, but he's had some solid foes. His last opponent, the Thai, had an inflated record but he can fight and it was a good scrap. Enoki, Yordan, & Juarez were all solid challengers. Kimura was a former titlist who had a good comeback win before taking on John.

Problem is that, while there has been some solid (and Hosono counts for that too), there hasn't been quite enough and he hasn't done anything to unify the class which would at least be something to validate some of his stats.

Good points, and yea i enjoyed the Pripyano fight as well, was expecting John to show his age since he has been in some serious wars but the guy still has quite the motor and outworked the Thai. But honestly who of the big American or European names have called out John lately? nobody, and I think thats a big factor in his not being able to unify.... he's a high risk low reward. If he gets beat in the states then most american fans will say he's just another fighter out of Asia with a protected record, and any belt holding boxer won't want to risk losing to John (because its a very real possibility that they would, just watch what he was able to do against marquez).

He's not calling for anyone either. Seems happy riding it out to break Pedroza's record and go for the hollow "0."

I thought Marquez beat him in their fight but John is clearly not an easy out.
