How does Omar Figueroa stack up against the best LWs at 135?

It's a question that needs to be asked, he's looking to make a name for himself in that division, says he wants Broner. I honestly can't see Burns, Vazquez or Abril beating him.

Only seem him fight a few times. Looks pretty good I thought.

Young, strong, good power, good skills.

He's completely unproven though. His level of opposoition is pityful so I'd like to see him step up before I make any judgement of how he'd fair with proven Lightweight's like Burns, Abril etc.

I hear he might be on the undercard May 4th.

Really good chin, infighting abilities, a good size LW who's constantly throwing punches...they need to throw him in there against good opposition already, he's shown to have all the tools needed. I think he's far too active for Abril and Vazquez, also beats Burns up inside.

That could be the case but it's hard to judge against the level of opposition he's been fighting. I mean, it's really lack luster. If he moves up and still performs well then I'll start talking about beating the Top LW's.

I heard he was possibly going to fight the Abril-Bogere winner on May 4th but I think Abril wants to wait out for Broner in June.

Maybe Figuera-Bogere? That would be a good tough test for him and if he pulls through that then he's in the mix.

Yeah and I'm not sure when Abril's cut will fully be healed, in fact I really don't know the seriousness of it, Bogere would be alright, don't see it as tough but it's definitely a step up. They need to set him up quick, his time at LW will most likely be short.

I think it will be tough in the sense it will be rough and dirty and a good learning experience if he pulls through it.

Getting him on the May 4th card will be great exposure and they can get him an opponent.

No, I think they should stay away from him if anything and I'm in the minority when I say I actually appreciate Vazquez's boxing ability. Figueroa is far too active, he doubles/ triples the jab, and attacks from unorthodox angles.

Good puncher, but in the fights I've seen, he looks like he's really open for counter punches.

Omar is still a prospect. But he's a pure pressure/offensive fighter. In 1 of his latter fights, (untelevised) he got stunned badly but still won. He's 1 of my favorite fighters but I do not think he's ready for the top 5 just yet, maybe in another years. He's dynamite to watch though.
