What muscles are MOST important for punching power?

Ok in sports its best to train sport specific movements and not seperate muscles as a general rule, also I believe a boxing punch ustilises most of our major muscles in one go.

    BUT

This question is just asking which muscles you feel are particulaly important for punching power and why!?

Some say legs, some say back some say calves etc

Power aint from muscles. You see guys all the time that are stacked but can't throw a power punch worth anything. Its all arm punches. Power comes from your body and how you have it positioned, how you torque it when u throw, and what root u can establish or momentum you can generate. Too much muscles can actually impede that process.

Martial art concept says powers starts from your intent, drawn through your root, and courses through your entire body to culminate in your fist. The more natural the movement the better.

Boxing concept says you either have it or you don't.

        But There you go.

So strengthening the muscles that help you punch hard, won't help at all???

Get outta here with your 1930's logic.

So we have proof that Matthysse doesn't do any type of calisthenics or workouts to help him be more explosive???

Legs: Calves, Quads, Buttox, Hamstrings, etc.

Your abdomen, lower back, your lats, upper back, shoulders.

To the people posting picks Of Matthyse, some guys put on muscle differently, some guys bulk up, and other guys are loaded with lean muscle, guys like Matthyse, Pavlik, Bute etc.

I think being loaded with lean muscle instead of bulky muscles makes a big difference in a persons power. Those big muscles make you sacrifice your speed, meanwhile staying lean you keep your speed and increase your power.
