Hopkins goal was to unify the MW division which took time as Don King and others wouldn't let their fighters near Hopkins. Also as Hopkins kept racking up title defenses it became a goal to break the record. The biggest names in boxing were not above him they were Oscar and Tito which he obviously got. No one in boxing was a bigger name at the time.

That was only if both fighters won and of course Roy lost to Green and basically ended up fighting Hopkins for nothing since the PPV flopped, only Hopkins got paid.
Over the years this has always been the hang up - roy asking for 60/40 or Hopkins asking for 60/40. Basically big ego's.

I don't think so.
Both guys took completely different career paths after their first encounter, and while there was a point in time post-Trinidad where a Jones/Hopkins II bout was ripe for the picking, it wasn't seen as a real big fight by anybody who didn't already follow the sport.
As mentioned earlier : Jones wasn't a very good draw even during his dominant prime, and Hopkins still isn't despite all that he's achieved.
I think if there had been more intrest the fight would've been signed.
