He coulda worked his way to a being a star before the trinadad fight by beating other top fighters in the weight class right above him but chose to stay at 160 where the fights were much easier untill losing to jt who much younger and could keep a pace that Hopkins couldn't anymore.

So he moved up fighting tarver right after the big weight loss he just had after the Rocky movie also it just happened to be after jones had loss by kayo I think it was twice by then.

I'm not saying any of this is fact but it sure is a fat coincidence that he never moved up till after jones lost and was no longer really a threat. And never attempted to fight the other big names in the weight class right above him in the 90's so... Yeah I think he ducked him.
This is a silly post..There is no rule in boxing that says you have to move up in weight. Hopkins goal was to unify the MW division which took time as Don King and others wouldn't let their fighters near Hopkins. Also as Hopkins kept racking up title defenses it became a goal to break the record. The biggest names in boxing were not above him they were Oscar and Tito which he obviously got. No one in boxing was a bigger name at the time.

Would have been nice to see him in the mix at 168 though wouldn't it?

Yeah back in the day. I don't think Hopkins was close to his prime yet though when James Toney and the likes were there.

Maybe but he may have grown into his prime quicker if he'd moved up.

Would have been a great addition to 168. Hopkins-Toney, wow.

Oh yeah there are quite a few fights there that would have been awesome.

That was only if both fighters won and of course Roy lost to Green and basically ended up fighting Hopkins for nothing since the PPV flopped, only Hopkins got paid.

Over the years this has always been the hang up - roy asking for 60/40 or Hopkins asking for 60/40. Basically big ego's.
From what I remember before the Green fight, it was stated both men signed the contract all they had to do was win their fights, Hopkins even said their would be an hob 24/7 and all that, you might be getting mixed up when Hopkins ducked Roy after he beat Tarver, at that time both men had a verbal agreement to fight, then he chose to fight Winky instead

                    I don't think so.

Both guys took completely different career paths after their first encounter, and while there was a point in time post-Trinidad where a Jones/Hopkins II bout was ripe for the picking, it wasn't seen as a real big fight by anybody who didn't already follow the sport.

As mentioned earlier : Jones wasn't a very good draw even during his dominant prime, and Hopkins still isn't despite all that he's achieved.

I think if there had been more intrest the fight would've been signed.

Ummmm nope, the fight wouldn’t have been a Mayweather/Pac, or a De La Hoya/Trinidad but it would have been big and did a lot for both mens careers, what better fight could both men at the time have taken if not fight each other please tell me
