Comments Thread For: Kubrat Pulev To Stay Busy While The IBF Sorts Things Out

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KOs) has decided to withdraw from an ordered IBF final eliminator with Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KOs). Adamek issued a statement earlier to explain his reasons for pulling away from the Kubrat opportunity. The winner of the eliminator would become the mandatory challenger to unified champion Wladimir Klitschko.

The decision is odd, because Adamek took part in the IBF's four man elimination tournament, and knew ahead of time that he would facing the winner of Pulev and Alexander Ustinov. Adamek won a controversial split decision over Steve Cunningham in the first part of the IBF's tournament, while Pulev knocked Ustinov out in second half of the four man tournament. According to a Polish website and other sources in Europe, the IBF has decided Adamek will be replaced by Bryant Jennings.

Jennings zastąpi Adamka w walce z Pulewem?

Its speculation hence the question mark at the end of the title. Wouldn't be suprised if it was "leaked" by Kathy Duva trying to get another fighter they promote in the eliminator.

Adameks logic on not taking the fight because he wants the fights that make the most money makes little sense. If he was confident he coudl beat Pulev then his next fight would not only be for teh championship which he said was his goal when fighting at heavyweight, but be a extremely high payday.

Pulev should definitely have one more fight before a potential showdown with Wlad. Would be best if he fought a big man like Price or Fury for an eliminator.

too bad, was looking forward to Pulev-Adamek
but IBF should just install Pulev as the mandatory
he has a better chance of beating Wlad than Adamek does
if Adamek is the one who walked from the eliminator, it's on him
give Pulev the next shot and Adamek can get in line

Sounds like Adamek's ambition for championship glory has dissapeared. I wonder whether he is about to give Golota a rematch.

Too bad for Pulev. This would have been a great fight for him to showcase his ability.

Essentially this is a big reason why HW boxing sucks: The contenders won't fight each other to establish a credible challenger to the klits.

too bad this fight won't happen. i think pulev wins but still would have have been neat to watch. again another potential great fight is put on hold for business reasons. someone pointed out he could wait for the arreola\stiverne winner since that could be for the vacant WBC title if vitali calls it a day. adamek would make more money fighting in poland on his own PPV then he would fighting pulev. he would even make less in the mandatory slot as he would be on the end of a 75-25 purse split. a pulev loss could actually hurt his earning potential. these are the parts of the sport that piss me off but i can't blame adamek. he's almost 37 & nearing the end. he wants to cash out with his marbles intact. it's too bad he wasted the IBF's time in the 4 man box off...

Looks like Pulev will be defending his EBU (European) heavyweight title in March or April:

Good to hear that Pulev is staying busy; all too often a guy earns a top ranking and then sits on the sidelines indefinitley waiting for his title shot.
