"What about when Leonard decided to box in the rematch"?

You need to watch the fight, he was boxing in the first fight until Duran hurt him with a left hook. After that Leonard needed to stand his ground or he would have been stopped if he tried to stay on the outside!

The second fight was set up by Leonard and Duran was forced to take the early date or miss the payday.
Who knows what went through Durans mind at that time.

Personally I think Leonard fought his best fight in the first fight. He showed he could stand up and take the heat and give it back. He didn't loose by much but if he boxed that night he was going to get beat up.
Floyd Mayweather would get hurt against a prime Duran.

The day late Leonard left us and the boxing world to miss him in tears still hurts our hearts. A goddamn hitman named Tommy killed him, shot him dead in the head...

floyd's great man, but never really fought another great fighter in their prime

he should've fought pac in 09, probably would've cemented his legacy

BUT, his pockets would be a lot thinner,

he won financially but did a disservice to his legacy
Yes, floyd chose money over legacy. You can't have it both ways. Duran all day.

Floyd Mayweather will never win a belt at middleweight because he will never take on an opponent slightly bigger than himself, like Sergio Martinez or Gennady Golovkin. However, Floyd has never had a problem fighting smaller men like Juan Manuel Marquez.

Duran never ducked anybody. His achievements are greater than Floyds. Instead of cherry-picking old faded fighters like Shane Mosley or flawed fighters coming off a loss like Zab Judah, instead of ducking prime lightweights, welterweights and middleweights, Duran was always willing to fight the best boxers in their prime.

Even fighters much bigger than himself like Iran Barkley!
"Barkley stepped on the scale at the Trump Plaza Theater—and nearly fainted dead away when it registered 164 pounds. "I thought it was all over," said Barkley, who had weighed 160 pounds earlier that morning. If the heavier reading had been correct, Barkley would have had to forfeit his title right there. He stepped off the scale, then stepped back on it—and now it read 159 pounds. Evidently a jokester in Duran's entourage had put his foot on the scale." -
