Each fight is only 3 rounds. Fighting 4, 5, or 6 times in one tournament shouldn't be a big problem.

Doing away with headgear will be a welcome return to the old days. The hard hitters will be on a more even playing field with the tag players.

Teddy Atlas likes claiming that nonsense and i could list the top 10 for each weightclass and you would find very few top amateurs who are pitty pat punchers and fencer types. No more than the pro game has.
The last couple Olympics I've watched, largely what I saw is what I described - guys pitty pattying around scoring "points" and then trying to maintain that lead by not engaging. This is just my perspective.

I disagree with your last comment about injuries. A 10 point system with headgear still encourages those improvements, i don't want to watch the Olympics and have 1/4 of the weightclasses having replacement boxers in the medal round because winners have cuts and closed eyes.
I don't think it would be as high as 1/4th, but regardless that's a price I think is worth paying. Part of the lack of popularity imo is it's become almost anonymous - blue vs red. No one can see anyone's face. No one can become a favorite of a certain fighter. Imagine if Leonard had headgear - America would have never of fallen in love with his smile and his charisma. The headgear has evolved so much that the entire face is practically covered. At least in the 80's you could still see there faces.

Really like this. Hopefully it will make younger fighters work on defense and fundamentals a bit more rather than the mindless swinging and point fighting that is incorporated now.

LOL he's shook about the rule changes because his favorite fighters need to wear helmets in order to succeed in boxing.

I don't see how anybody can have a problem with this... UNLESS your favorite boxers descend from a region which is rife with glass jaws.
