Well Chavez jr. was the #1 contender at the time, Macklin was he #2 contender, and Murray is currently the #8 contender. Kelly Pavlik was the lineal champion and Paul Williams was the #1 contender.

The most you can say is that Barker and Dzinziruk were 'weak' defenses but both those guys get really underrated around here and you have to keep in mind that everyone was ducking him back then. HBO forced the Dzinziruk fight on Martinez and Barker was a last minute opponent after Daniel Geale and Quillin (or rather his management) refused the Martinez fight.

Sergio hasnt taken extened career breaks so people will be harsh on Floyd which is a very fair deal. You dont deliver like Floyd dont deliver, and have anti climatich comeback opponents then Floyd has it coming to him.
Sergio is also older than Floyd and wants to fight Floyd, it cant wait forever. Sergio wants to give the public what they want. Floyd dont mind fighting JMM when called out by JMM, but not Sergio?
Get outta here with the excuses Larry aka Floyd.

Sergio will probably fight at his normal weight then onwards rather than drain himself for Floyd.

Why is Martinez 160 calling out Floyd at 154 when hes taking fights against Murray instead of Golovkin?

So if Martinez fights Golovkin and beats him then he's ducking Pirog. If he beats Pirog then he's ducking a Chavez rematch. If he beat the 'new and improved' Chavez then he's ducking Quillin. If he beats Quillin, then he's ducking Geale and so on and so forth... meanwhile the guy isn't getting any younger.

Why not fight Pirog? He was more deserving than Barker. Why not fight Golovkin now? He's more deserving than Murray.
I want to see him fight GGG too but he just became deserving with this recent win and Martinez already has his lame az fight set up with Murray in Argentina, no way GGG fights him over there and he shouldnt , so lets hope that Sergio goes after GGG instead of a rematch with jr

Almost all the MWs are ducking him/taking other fights instead, save Golovkin

                    Geale
                    Sturm
                    Quillin
                    Pirog

They have no interest in fighting Sergio

I kinda agree with Larry here. B-Hop ALWAYS gets **** for fighting a smaller Trinidad, but Felix had already moved up to the weight, entered the unification tournament, and grabbed a belt. Rather than unify and clean out his division, he spent years chasing a money fight against baby Chavez who clearly was not ready and had no desire to fight him. And when he wasn't belittling Chavez's career, he was calling out Welterweights in Pacquiao and Floyd.

I'm a Martinez fan, but if he retires without at least attempting to clean out his division, I will be greatly disappointed.
