Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev Arrives: Moves Towards Title Shot

29-year old Russian Light Heavyweight Sergey Kovalev (20-0-1, 18 KO) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, made a huge leap into relevance on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut with a dominant third-round stoppage win over 34-year old former WBA Light Heavyweight titlist Gabriel Campillo (21-5-1, 8 KO) of Madrid, Spain. Kovalev controlled the bout from wire to wire and used three knockdowns in the third to close the show.

It was the second knockout loss of Campillo’s career

Both men came into the fight spot on the Light Heavyweight limit of 175 lbs. The referee was Mike Ortega. [Click Here To Read More]

          Yeah, whatever.

BTW, you mentioned something about Salido being a cheat because he'd used steroids in the past? Well, so has Vitali. Don't be such a ***** about it.

It was an unintentional butt, during an exchange. Happens in boxing all the time, especially when one guy is coming forward and throwing.

Not that it would change a rematch result. Garcia kicked arse.

disappointing to see as i was rooting for campillo. i don't want to make any excuses as roach was stating some during the telecast, props to kovalev. let's see what kind of noise he can make at 175. hopefully he can get another top fighter and be televised by nbc or espn in his next outing.

His movement is kinda robotic, but man I love his willingness to throw punches. He never let Campillo get a rhythm period. He would throw punches constantly. He would throw combos when Campillo was not throwing. He would throw combos when Campillo was throwing.

He was a punching machine in there tonight. He knew Campillo's punches could not hurt him, so he would throw right on top of them. He fought a perfect fight and caught and hurt him when Campillo himself was throwing a punch.

                  Lulz What a dumb statement.

The only LHW's that have raw athleticism on par with Kovalev is Dawson and Pacasl with Pascal being very crude in regards to skill and versatility. Campillo himself has great mobility and handspeed and Kovalev's was clearly superior to Gabe's. Sergei's hand and footspeed, balance, combinations, power and all around technical skills and boxing ability are 1st rate.

Tavoris Cloud is a utter cement footed, unathletic robot compared to Kovalev. Dude better get with Haymon and GB so he can start pumping PEDs into his body if he wants to even have a chance to compete.
