I was not fortunate enough to see him fight a complete fight against Nigel Benn when his unfortunate accident took place although I do remeber seeing him demolish an opponent once with some serious body shots. As I read the board I often see guys throw his name out an talk about how he lost to Benn. My question is do any of you feel that Benn was the trully better fighter or that the awkward blows to the back of Gerald's head is what caused him to lose the fight. Benn always appeared to be a warrior to me but not someone whol could handle a refined boxer ala Eubank and especially RJJ. But he would always have a punchers chance against a guy who was willing to rumble.

It was Gerald McClellan's chin that was the main problem for him in that fight: It was too good, he took too much punishment.

I can dig it. i hear taht he traded too much. But my questio is do you think he was the better fighter that fought a bad fight that night that ultimately cost him his livlihood?

I found a copy of the fight on ebay that I think I am gonna get to see for myself. it also had a collection of other Gerald fights.

McClellan had more natural talent than did Benn.
He was a bigger, cleaner puncher.

But, he never showed the resilliency that Benn did...he never got the chance.
Benn came back from adversity, in his career & in that fight itself.


McClellan had more potential, but Benn was the better fighter.

Good look! I am gonna check that out. I also heard that the fight arguably should have been stopped in the first. I am a irm believer that sometimes boxers choose to fight the wrong fight and it gives a lesser aopponent a chance to beat them. Rahman-Lewis 1, Leaonard -Duran 1, Kevin Kelly-Naz. all fights were I think the superior guy lost becaseu he faught the wrong fight from a technical aspect

McClellan fought a pretty ****** fight, but all of those easy KO's he scored had turned him into a ****** fighter.
He no longer set up his monster shots, he just swung 'em & expected them to land & destroy.

agree with this and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time i'd take him against 9 out of 10 times ....benn is great also nothing against him
