FORMER world champion boxer Steve Collins has sensationally announced he is to return to the ring – for his first fight in 16 years.

The Dubliner confirmed today that he will fight American legend Roy Jones Jr.

The former WBO middleweight and super middleweight champion were lined up to fight each other on a number of occasions in the late 90s but the match never happened.

Collins has claimed that Jones always came up with an excuse to dodge him.

im only gonna say this once........
nobody mention "sven ottke" in the same breath as these former elite supermiddleweight fighters.
perhaps in the same breath as the likes of....tocker pudwill.
jones,toney,hill,benn,eubank,collins,watson,ray close and the great joe calzaghe.
just dont do it, it cant be justified and its insulting not only to these fighters but, their countrymen.

The funny thing is Benn fought in Nov (or Dec?) in a charity bout, and Eubank was talking about a comeback last October.

Honestly though, it's not healthy for them to be taking shots at their age, it's not even healthy for a 43 year old RJJ to be on his knockout tours.

From what I recall, Collins collapsed in sparring the last time he attempted a comeback, and that was over 10 years ago.
