Holyfield has no brains left, slurs his words and cannot articulate anywhere near Hopkins level. Hopkins is a great story-teller, is witty, smart in a number of ways. But neither should be fighting. Still, Hopkins has an easier mountain to climb than Holyfield against the K Bros. Holyfield is less busy as well if you can imagine that. Many Pick Hop in his fight, no one picks Holy against either Brother.

I realize you two are B-hop fans like myself but I disagree. I think he should keep doing it till the wheels fall off. This is his calling card and what will set him apart from any other fighter.

PED accusations will only increases if he keeps winning, but I'll say just plow right through it and dismiss all of that.

Agreed. I wanna see this old geezer get a few more wins no matter what he has to do. If he has to pull a few Ric Flair's to do it, then so be it.

Hopkins keeps talking himself into another fight, another fight, this achievement now to go. He just keeps renewing them. I'd love to see him win a belt. But aiming to unify by 50 is just starting to sound a little crazy, and like a bad mix of some of Roy and Evander's sound bytes, sadly.

I certainly want him to go out on a good win, abut it's looking like in always wanting another fight, he's not going to.
But unlike Holyfield, he can actually get the chance to do it. Not that he would achieve it but just the chance.

It's already pretty much guaranteed that he will get a unification fight against Cleverly, if he beats Cloud. That's IBF and WBO around his waste. That's enough of a bargaining chip for Dawson to want another fight with Hopkins, should Chad even be the WBC Champ by that time. Maybe he gets beat by Pascal again, and I'm pretty sure Jean would want another crack at old Bernard.

So at least his unification quest will be within reach, unlike Holyfield.

I used to be of the same mindset, but I can no longer condone such things in good conscience. My love of the sport comes before my love of any particular fighter(s), including the guy who got me into it in the first place, and there comes a time when your refusal to step away from the limelight starts tainting the sport as a whole.

I'm not saying Bernard is there yet. But he's getting close to it.

                I don't think I will ever reach that point Bringer. I'm a B-hop fanboy 2.0.

Some context: I remember ordering the Hopkins Vs Winky PPV and falling asleep during a Michael Katsidis' fight on the undercard, which was supposedly FOTY-ish, but I woke up just in time and was on myfeet in excitement during Winky-Hopkins - in what was perceived as a boring fight. Didn't even pay attention to that as I was rooting for B-hop to crack the Winky defense and give him a schooling. And he did do just enough.

Long story short, I have to be invested in a fighter to be truly interested. It can't just be a matchup where the pundits predict a FOTY-type barnburner Fight. That doesn't get me off, but is merely foreplay.

I can understand where you're coming from, I've just lost my fanboy'ism in recent years.

I still have tons of love and respect for the dude for getting me into boxing and all he's achieved along the way, but I just don't have the heart to watch him turn the final act of his career into a circus performance if that's what it comes to : Winning fights more by crook than by hook.

Hey what it is my brother?? I still lurk around the forums from time to time for the latest "news" (gossip), I just usually prefer not to get in the middle of the "Pactards" and "Floydiots" (who the hell invented this ****** fucking term and why has it stuck???). Quality posters like you are few and far between. I've also been pretty busy getting my shit together and moving back to NYC. What you been up to?

Edit: I don't understand, there are thousands of "humorous" pictures of unconscious warriors posted, damn near every sig/avatar is a naked girl ensuring that I will never be able to look at this site at work or in front of children, yet they draw the line at dirty words? So you can't say "asshole" but you can have a picture of one in your profile. Good job Boxingscene, thanks for making the internet safe again (despite being classified as an 'attack site' by Norton)..

Come on man, he's already showing early signs that he's getting a lil punchy. You saw that ESPN video. He was talking about stew for a second, and then from there on he started referring to Skip Bayless as "Stu"... Sure I'd love to see 10 more BHop fights, myself, but at what cost? I always think about that Muhammad Ali quote, "I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'" Do you think he's living the life that he planned out? Probably not, the man can barely speak or stand. Imagine how much better his life could have been if he didn't fight on so long, and take all that unnecessary punishment.

I'm always going to fights and events where I'll see Paulie, Scully, Collazo, all kinds of great fighters. Those dudes are cool to talk to, especially Scully who's very knowledgeable and can tell you the secret inside scoop. But then you see guys like Junior Jones. Despite our several lengthy conversations, and the fact that we trained in the same gym while he was attempting a comeback, he always introduces himself when he sees me. And it's not just his memory, at times he's impossible to understand, and he's completely incoherent. It's sad to say, but it's kinda like talking to a homeless drunk in the subway.

At some point you gotta say "thank you for all you've given us, it's time to enjoy your success."
