  • Comments Thread For: With Cloud on Horizon, Hopkins Goes Back To Old School

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Leave it to Bernard Hopkins.

Though you’d think a 48-year-old challenging a 31-year-old to a fight would want all the new-school training gimmicks he could find, the career contrarian from Philadelphia has a different plan.

    And its genesis, you ask?

Why a Southeast Pennsylvania retirement home, of course.

There, while paying a visit to former Philly-based light heavyweight champion Harold Johnson – who himself fought until age 42 – Hopkins stumbled upon a regimen that’s already served him well as he’s approached the foothills of yet another would-be 175-pound mountain climb.

Hopkins will meet unbeaten IBF title-holder Tavoris Cloud on March 9 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“There were 13 or 15 older people in chairs sitting around a table with a therapist,” Hopkins said, “and they were working on their reflexes by playing a game with a tennis ball. They had to juggle the ball without looking at their hands, and they couldn’t let the ball fall to the floor. [Click Here To Read More]

Why? You've done enough BHop, even this fight is completely unnecessary aside from going out on another high note. I really wish he'd announce his retirement after he lifts that belt off of Cloud.

For the good of the sport, I'm hoping for a Cloud win here!

I like Cloud....his style & his action, not a grabber & head user like hopkinbs...of the above-mentioned bouts all look really good but IMO Rosado has the least chance 2 win...he's giving up a great deal in size...

              Seriously?

Cloud fights like once a year on average with the occasional advantage of getting dubious decisions.

The guy's barely in this sport.

I don't agree with all of b-hops tactics but when it's all said and done, you've got to admire the guy for what he's doing and how he's kept in shape?

Agreed, I really don't understant how people enjoy this guy, when it is difficult to even remember his last fight. He has been given gifts and to fight Hopkins is another one; he wish he wasn't given.

Win or lose, Hopkins should retire after this fight.

He's given enough for this sport.
