You got to love the people who don't think Ali-Frazier were amazing fights as well.......
If you combined all terms of a great boxing rivalry....the hype of the fights, the actual fighting, the legacy they leave behind, it has to be Ali-Frazier.
......Not sure if you're being serious or not......
The fights lived up to it, the 2nd is the forgotten fight because Ali controlled much of the fight and the other two were amazing. Much like the third Pac-JMM fight will be the forgotten one eventually.
Ali's charismatic personality also added to the rivalry.
As much hype as Pacquiao-Marquez has, it still couldn't compare to the levels of Ali-Frazier I and III.
i didn't appreciate his racism and the way he degraded smoking joe
and pure entertainment stand point pac and marquez rivalry is better
Ali-Frazier is definitely overrated by the old folk who are biased anyway
Marquez-Pac is definitely superior.
The first fight was good, the left hook Frazier landed is one of the most iconic ever. The Thrilla In Manilla was pretty good even with Frazier'scorner quitting and Ali wanting to quit but any figh in the Morales - Barrera trilogy is better
If Valero was still alive the trilogy he would've of given us against Pacquiao would be up there with the best.
He would've smoked Soto and Marquez would've stopped him in 10 so there would be no need for a rematch. Maybe if Marquez was a tad bit less skilled there would be an epic rivalry
I don't see Valero beating Manny at all, there'd be some great exchanges but he's not beating Manny H2H. Valero is probably one of the more overrated guys on here, since the best win he has on there was DeMarco. He had great potential but it's one of those "we'll never know" because he was bat s**t crazy.
The rivalry is surreal, the talented but less athletic, less known fighter against the stronger, faster more famous ATG.Yet the lesser known fighter doesn't concede defeat or accept the odds that are stacked against him despite getting robbed and dropped 5 times. Just to comeback at the very end of the rivalry to viciously knock out his arch nemesis which no one thought he could do. It's some Cinderella shit
I'd say
Barrera Morales comes second with Gatti Ward 3rd.
Honorable mentions go to
Vazquez - Marquez
Chacon - Olivares
Ali - Frazier (overrated IMO)
Bowe - Holyfield
Gonzalez - Carbajal
Duran - Dejesus
the history romanticizers will disagree and say some sorry ass rivalry like
Langford - Wills because they fought over 20 times,or
Nelson vs Gans
are the best
I thought the thread was gonna be about this rivalry. First one that came to mind when I saw the title.
