His career IMO is a disappointment, But he knows best.. i was looking forward to him turning pro after the 2008 Olympics but his dad said he wanted his son's body to develop properly, I was sooo convince how good he was i said he should be ban from competing against other amateurs lol, Hopefully the WSB would launch him unto the bigger stage soon enough, Am sure if people like Gamboa, Rigo or those cuban greats werent restricted then they would have turn pro and lighten up boxing at an earlier age rather than having to deflect their country not seeing their families just to get the opportunity to turn pro./

Lomachenko should have his first WSB fight in a week or two. Here's a fight from WSB

i'm familiar with the WSB. it's not easy to follow on american TV, so i've had real trouble getting into it. it's not a bad watch, and it is good to see these kids / men making some cash.
it's more professional than the amateurs, but it is not professional boxing. the styles are more professional, but they aren't professional styles developed by being a professional boxer. the guys fighting in the WSB are there because they are amateurs, many of them looking to keep their amateur status either temporarily or long term.

my feeling is this; if you're not going to fight in the olympics in rio (which i had read that he was, but evidently that's not the case,) why not turn professional? i'd be shocked if this kid hasn't been approached by american promotors with some big money. 135-147 is getting red hot. there's money to be made there. he looks like the real deal. i'd really like to see him turn to the states and turn professional. start him off with decent comp and let him get rounds professionally, get him some good sparring with professional fighters with the professional styles he's going to be seeing at those weights, and let's see what this kid can do.

no, but their age does them no service upon entrance into the pros. if you want to be a successful amateur boxer for your entire career, then be my guest. in many cases you'll be a grown man fighting kids. you'll have a full time job getting punched in the face, but you won't be getting paid for it.

gamboa and rigo aren't going to go on to have great pro careers. they were great amateurs. i'd be very shocked if they aren't eventually stopped

they'll almost certainly go down as "could have, should have" fighters.

I think he is in WSB for three main reasons.

-To help promote boxing in Ukraine in general and gain interest for Ukraine's WSB since it's the first season they've had a team.

          - He gets to stay within the Ukrainian Boxing Federation, the supporting trainers and his teammates as he makes the transition. Plus he has a newborn baby so staying in Ukraine for another year is less to deal with than turning pro, moving to the US and being a new Dad all at the same time.

          - Lastly its actually better experience than he would gain in the 1st year or more of a normal pro career.

All that amateur vs pro style stuff is largely bogus. There are pro with am styles and am's with pro styles. Lomachenko and most the guys on his team have pro styles, more so than alot of professionals. Check out the fight i posted and tell me that his teammate Mytrofanov doesn't have a pro stye already and that's always been his style, no adjustment needed. Then compare him to someone like N'jikam who still has an amateur style.
