Tom Glover - Just your typical journeyman really. Hard working kid who worked full time as a bricklayer and boxed as a journeyman as a second income.
He wasn't particularly skilled, had no power, he didn't do anything very well but he possessed the heart of a thousand lions.
One day Tom Glover was bought in at late notice to face a guy by the name of Nadeem Siddique. Siddique had lost a recent fight when he dropped down to face Martin Gethin, he'd already beaten Tom rather comfortably in a previous meeting and this was a fight too simply build Siddique back up. Back to welterweight was Siddique who was being hyped to be something special and had a rather heavily padded record.
This time Glover had trained his ass off, he'd taken time off work and was determined to settle the score and that he did, ripping the script up and working non-stop to take a well deserved points win.
He won the heart of the British public that night.
Next stop, again a huge underdog against former British, European & world champion; Jon Thaxton. Nobody expected Glover too win but the British crowd was in full support anyway. Glover was more determined than ever and once again shocked the British boxing world with a close points win.
The British public loved the upset king but his run stopped in a gutsy performance against John O'Donnell. Nose broken, I think his jaw was too and beaten to a pulp, he fought his heart out but was ultimately stopped in the 6th round.
Too a gutsy guy who wasn't the greatest of talents but sometimes all you need is that will too succeed.
