Donaire is paving the way for how often fighters should fight

Rather than this crap twice a year gimmicky thing ATM (Pacman, Mayweather before, most of the top stars) or this once a year thing (Bradley, Mayweather ATM).

Donaire has said he wants to fight again in March or April, after fighting 4 times last year. This is the way it should be, not once or twice a year. Big up Nonito!

An exhausted but grateful WBO/Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire left for his home in Las Vegas yesterday to enjoy Christmas with wife Rachel and friends and to throw a big party for his friends following an extremely successful year in the ring. Donaire who won the WBO title in February from Wilfredo Vazquez Jr of Puerto Rico and defended it successfully against two division champion Omar Andres Narvaez of Argentina, IBF champion Jeffrey Mathebula of South Africa and Mexican warrior Jorge "Travieso" Arce last December 15 told the Manila Standard he was "not thinking about boxing, not yet, but I expect to fight sometime around March or April so lets see what they (Top Rank) come up with."

yeah would be awesome to have big fights like every month. But they'd probably get overwhelmed sometimes

It's easy to fight 4 times in a year when you only fight bums.

To be fair to other fighters, HBO giving a fighter 4 dates is extremely rare. It isn't a privilege everyone has. Had HBO only given Donaire two dates, I'm not so sure he would have fought more than those 2 times. But then again, HBO is probably paying the Bertos of the world in 2 fights the same amount Donaire is getting paid for 4 fights so it evens out.

You can't compare Pac and Mayweather to Donaire. They've been in the game for a long time and every one of their fights is on PPV now. It's unrealistic for them to fight three times a year.

Pac & Floyd have already turned the corner so their slide shows up much quicker if they fight often. Donaire will be 31 and thats NOT young for his weight class so he needs to grab all the brass rings available to him now! Theres NO multi-offers$$$$$ at his class (122-130) so why not get busy more often! Making the most money doesn't mean your the most skilled it does have alot to do with promotion and the avalibilty of other fighters who can draw. To have 5 fighters within your division that are popular is the easiest way to promote you. If an established fighter gets into fighting shape and fights twice within a 5 to 6 month period he can easily take off the rest of the year and come back again with 2 more the next year. When developing a fighter who has promise he needs to fight once every 5 weeks as he moves from prelim distances to semi-main goes. Ray
