Comments Thread For: DeGale Turns Back on EBU, Groves-N'Diaye in Play

First super middleweight James DeGale relinquished the EBU title to concentrate on defending the WBC Silver championship as he, according to the EBU rules, couldn't hold the two belts at the same time.

Then the EBU Council looked into the matter and by a large majority voted for a more ******* interpretation of the rules and DeGale was reinstated as EBU super middleweight champ. [Click Here To Read More]

He's a italian supermiddleweight contender with a record of 22 - 1 and only lost a split decision in denmark and has been Degale's mandatory for a good few months. It's a ok fight for Groves for him to win the european belt.

Thanks for the info, managed to find his record eventually. Lost a split decision to Lolenga Mock in Denmark, could well of been a hometown gift for Mock then. Hes beaten a few half decent Euro level fighters, hopefully he is capable of pushing Groves as I am still not convinced Groves is all that myself.

It's strange Degale wanted nothing do with N'Diaye and chose to defend a meanginless WBC belt instead of the prestigious european belt, it would have been a perfect warm up fight at the start of the year for him.

If You look in the WBC rankings Lucian Bute, Edwin Rodriguez and the champion Ward are in front of him currently. Very tough fights.

How much credibility does the EBU have? Seem's like a bit of a joke.

How much credibility? You can brag you are the best in Europe and after you have defended it a couple of times you are pretty much guaranteed a world title shot.

              EBU is the real deal.

Many of the big names in the UK have held this belt before a world title shot, Naseem Hamed, Lennox Lewis, David Haye and now people like Degale and Groves are fighting for it.

The progression in britian with the belts is Commonwealth, British, European and then a world title.

So you think Degale wanted to take some easier fights and that's the only reason he'd give up the belt?

Why would Degale want to concentrate on the WBC silver title. Strange.
