Miguel Cotto thought since he fought such a great and close fight against Floyd Mayweather that he can beat anyone. What he forgot is that Mayweather was a Welter Weight moving up and was the smaller fighter of the two. Different story with Austin Trout. Trout has fought at Junior Middle weight his whole life. Sure he hasn't fought anyone on Cotto's level. But he is a very good boxer and with 5" reach advantage and size advantage. Miguel Cotto couldn't do what he normally does. Miguel Cotto couldn't bully Trout around like he did with others. Miguel Cotto would get hit every time he tried to close the gap, and fight in the inside. Miguel Cotto was just to small for Austin Trout. Trout imposed his size and will on Miguel Cotto. I don;t think this is the end of Miguel Cotto.

I think he should fight guys more evenly sized. I am not taking away nothing from Trout he fought a great fight. But his size and strength was the factor of this fight.

Exactly right, I have been saying it for months on end. Miguel just bit off a little more than he can chew with Austin Trout who was way to big for Cotto and I knew stylistically is a bad match up for Cotto, styles make fights. Trout knows how to adjust and is very versatile, Trout is not one of those 1 dimensional fighters, he is world class. Now Cotto is a little past it to be competing at an elite level at 154 and he would probably have to kill himself to make 147, so best bet for him would be exploring some catchweight fights at 151 152 where he can still be effective he can still beat the likes of Kirkland, Bunrage, Molina, imo maybe get a belt and entice Bradley to move up.. He should of fought Bunrage..

^^^^^ All I could think was damn if he shows up against Canelo like that he'll get thrashed. Martinez might murder him. It was upsetting, to say the least.

He still has something left and could easily beat Bundrage but he cant go against this big guys anymore. He is at a point where his stamina gives him major problems to the point he is breathing from the mouth before the 6 round. My recomendarion would be to fight Bundrage in Puerto Rico(Coliseo Jose Migue Agrelot) and if he looks good and wins he could go after Canelo or some other guy moving up from 147. Do not go after Canelo next is not right after last night.

if he fights guys who are the same size as he is he would be fine....he wasn't really hurt bad in the fight, yea he stumbled once or twice and he was noticably tired at the end...i just think its cuz he's too heavy and he doesn't have the stamina at that weight....if he can find it in him to watch his diet and start cutting to get back down to 147 he'll be a lot stronger and would be able to take punches better

Cotto has done enough in this sport to be able to retire and be with his family now.

Canelo has also shown to have stamina problems & he's not hard to hit, with that said I don't think he'll trash Cotto..
