First of all I’m a RJJ Fan not a hater. I’m just being objective because what we are discussing here are facts not hypothetical questions.

Having the balls to fight a rematch despite having KTFO in the previous fight is quite different from having the fighting heart dude, at least as far as I’m concern..

Fighting heart is when your ears and nose is bleeding, half of your face is numb and blackened by punches and yet the fighter still goes out there and mixed it up toe to toe trading punches with the opposition to accomplish what he needs to accomplish. As in Juan Manuel Marquez standing up after three K.D.s with a broken bleeding nose then came back charging against Pacman to at least salvage a draw or a Williams who has been K.D. at least 5 times against Klits and yet keep standing up and refuse to give up the fight, that’s heart for me amigo.

Oh yes RJJ fought Tarver again but did you see how he fought that match? Did he ever did something to threaten Tarver at any point in the fight? RJJ was simply outclassed out punched and RJJ doesn’t have it in him to throw out his fancy moves brawl and mixed it up and show a little sign of desperation to accomplish his goal. Nadda brother, None! That’s why in the end, he was not appreciated and his fighting heart being questioned.

Had Roy retired after the first Antonio Tarver bout, he would be ranked higher in all time lists. Top 3? Maybe thats going to far.

        hmm

Based on the way Roy beat guys of his era, and the fact that you canot judge a guy based on losses late in his career unless you're a hater, Roy's legacy is the same regardless of what happened vs Tarver. Roy was, is, and will be recognized and rightfully so as a top 50 p4p fighter of all time.

RJJ was a talent, but he never had the heart. We just didn't know that he didn't. He was a really great amatuer, but a pro, i m not too sure.
leonard, hagler, and hearns all had prooved they had heart, and they are better fighters that him in any era of boxing. Roj jones was lucky that he didn't share the time period with these guyz, becuz otherwise he would have been humiliated and defeated very early in his career.
This is false. To degrade and ignore what great heart Roy showed in the 1st Tarver fight is unfair. Roy proved his heart. But that was his last hurrah and even then his body was done. Now it's recovered a small amount, but not enough to allow him to be what he once was.

If Roy would have won, you wouldn't be putting all these parameters that you're putting in so that people would forget that busted ass--rusty ass Tarver beat his ass two times (three by some).

          It's really pathetic.

I think most unbiased people will say and rightfully say that Jones had weak opposition in his career. He went to heavy to beat a busted Ruiz.

One thing McKay1 said which was true, Jones was NEVER a major PPV seller. He truly was pushed for the most part by HBO. Why do you think he had so many Florida fights?

The first adversity in his career (TKOd by Tarver) he runs from Tarver and even stopped an onslaught that could have made the round 10-8 for him. But no, his heart was not in that fight.

There are TONS of boxing quotes by legends pertaining to "heart" and "fear" and other novel qualities of a great boxer, and Jones doesn't live up to past greats' quotes.

It really showed that Jones relied so much on his physical gifts throughout his career and when they slightly faded, his heart couldn't carry him to a victory against Tarver in the third fight.

          Sad truth.
