well its not bull****, its obviously beneficial. it is however extremely overrated. skills and intelligence wins fights first and foremost, you obviously need to be in shape but its not like you need a S&C coach to do that.

they will get you in better shape and it will make you a better fighter but only slightly. the skills and smarts is what really makes the fighter, developed by his boxing coach.

Its a racket, any boxer worth his salt whether he's got 5 fights or 50 fights knows how to get in top fighting shape.

All these guys are glorified personal trainers looking to get into boxing in one way or another.

Roach is dead on. I'd kick that bum out of my gym if it was me.

If you have an older fighter (age) coming into the gym after a long lay off I think a strength coach can be utilized. Along with the mind set of the fighter theres pluses and minuses all the time. As to a fighter like Manny who knows how to prepare I think his use of a skillfull strength coach is properly used at a minimal. This is boxing and boxing conditioning is the most important attribute and the fighters mind set gets to be the most important ingrediant as the bout nears! Ray

It's not bull**** at all. I can see overrated at times, but it's always useful to have someone who knows what they are doing run that part of camp. Being a boxing trainer and a fitness trainer aren't the same thing.

If it takes a stength and conditioning trainer to get you into boxing shape then its an obvious problem, but to be on that elite level you have to find edges in everything.

The one thing I gotta say is that they always mention Ariza got Manny into his explosive 135lbs shape for the Diaz match. Although, when did Pacquiao ever look bad prior? They act like they took something bad out of Manny and fixed it. He was explosive at 130lbs also... He just grew out of the division and next stop, yep, 135lbs. It just so happens Ariza was there when that happened and somehow(?) gets credit for transforming(?) Manny into this explosive(?) fighter when all a long I thought he was this explosive fighter...

Alex Ariza is just good at blowing his own trumpet. He acts like he MADE Manny Pacquiao with his 'S&C Program'.

If a S&C coach is there to tell you what exercises to do, YouTube can tell you that. If a S&C coach is there to fix your form, the video can teach you that. If a S&C is there to motivate you, your trainer can do that. Hell, even Buboy can do that.

The way I see it is, a S&C is like a smartphone. Do we REALLY need one? Not really but we still waste money on them. Again, that's the way I see it. Maybe I don't really appreciate the value of a S&C coach since I never had one.

I don't think Martinez has a S&C and look at him.
