  • Comments Thread For: Gutknecht vs. Braehmer High Stakes Bout Confirmed

In boxing terms the year for Team Sauerland ends with Arthur Abrahamīs title defense against Mehdi Bouadla on December 15. However, the planning for 2013 has already begun and it will start off with a ****. The legendary Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany will host the all-German affair between current European Champion Eduard Gutknecht (24-1, 9 KOs) and his compatriot and stablemate Juergen Braehmer (38-2, 30 KOs) on February 2.

Gutknecht clinched the EBU Title back in May of 2011 by a TKO victory in round eight over Britain's Danny McIntosh. Since then, he successfully defended the championship against Lorenzo DiGiacomo, Vyacheslav Uzelkov and Tony Averlant. The big four governing bodies of boxing all rank the prodigy of coach Ulli Wegner in their top ten.

This article is a nice bit of hype that flatters both fighters excessively. Failing to mention that Braehmer pulls out of fights for dubious reasons more often than he fights them, and that in his last two "defenses," Gutknecht barely beat Uzelkoff if at all, and definitely got a gift over a completely unknown and unaccomplished journeyman that clearly beat him in Averlant.

Gutknecht a prodigy? Psh. The guy looks like he's on the fast track to obscurity. He's an Ulli Wegner prodigy in the same vein as Dominick Britsch. This is a battle of two of the world's most disappointing fighters.

If Braehmer doesn't pull out for some reason and shows up, I fancy him to slaughter Eddy Gutknecht.

I don't know if I'd say slaughter because I think time and inactivity has taken a toll on him, but I do think he will or would win comfortably.
