You are asking people to rate the skills of Duran who hasn't fought in 11 years and wasn't in his prime 22 years. Most people here haven't been following boxing 5 years.
    Just saying.

      Absolutely.

But I don't think that's an excuse. 5 years is a long time to follow something and know nothing of it's past.

When I had been following boxing thoroughly for 5 years, I knew and researched and watched tons and tons of tapes on guys in era's before mine like Joe Louis, Ray Robinson, Harold Johnson, Henry Armstrong, Rocky Marciano etc etc etc.

People these day's seem to just not care enough to do research or watch guys before them. Lord knows why.

I think I do. Its a bit like a teenage girl who has become fanatical about the latest boy band or singer. Tell them about a band from before them who were more talented and achieved more success, wrote better music and they will look at you with a mixture of confusion and disgust. This is very similar to what fanboys, floydiots especially, do in this forum.

Prime Castillo and Corrales are absolutely better wins then an old fat Larry Holmes and Ruddock.

read the post above this reply of your to actually get an idea who Razor Ruddock was. Corrales was nothing like Razor, he didn't have bone crushing power and his skills were so limited.

also that old Larry Holmes went 12 competitive rounds with the second greatest heavyweight of this era only a year later in Evander Holyfield and also beat the highly underated rey mercer.

Old fat larry holmes who after getting ko'd managed to nearly beat evander holyfield. Tyson crushed his opponent is far more convincing fashion, that first fight with castillo imo was a robbery.

Duran could do anything, and did. I'd give him the edge. He was incredible.

Leonard's perceived image as a dancer/mover is pure bull****. He started off his career as a explosive slugger who takes you out. He loves to trade and dominated guys with his bursts of power/athleticism. His shockingly fast hand speed enabled him to be a very deadly slugger/brawler and that's the way he fought. He threw in his mixture of grace and outside fighting with the trademark shuffles and fleet footwork to impress the crowd, but Young Leonard's true power was in his explosive bursts and his love for combat.

In fact, this is pretty much proven in the Hearns-Leonard fight when Leonard actually tried to outbox Hearns and attempt his dancer/mover tactics which had him losing the fight. He readjusted his tactics and went into the slugging version which enabled him to take Hearns out later on.

The myth that Leonard was nothing more than a dancer/mover and 'fought Duran's fight' is just as preposterous as the myths that 'Marvin Hagler is a come forward slugger and loves to walk you down' along with the famous
'Mike Tyson had no boxing skills" and 'Ali's rope a dope was concocted to take Foreman out'
What a GREAT post. Don't expect people to pay attention though.
