People really sleep on Vargas, he was an animal and was a lot more skilled than people give him credit for.

I believe that if Vargas had fought Trinidad a little later, he would have beat him. He was thrown in there much to early against a mature champ and fought a too aggressive fight.

Saying that, we don't know how good Canelo really is so I can't say who would win. Right now I would say Vargas but if Canelo is as good as most think, he could be a lot better than not only Vargas but a lot of other boxers.

nando. alvarez hasn't had to the sort of competition that would make me think he would be crafty enough to beat vargas.

Vargas is a tricky case. I personally have always felt that he was a like Judah, had the good, just not the dedication. At the end of the day he was always lazy in the gym, at-least according to everyone I know that was in camp with him on several occasions.

IDK, maybe if Vargas fought Trinidad's brother, De La Hoya's cousin, Chavez Sr at 154 when he was almost retired and Kennedy McKinney I might have a better idea.

Instead he fought DLH, Triniday, Good Shane, undefeated Quartey and others.

I would have to go with who I've seen with top competition (i.e Vargas), not someone who I "suspect" might be able to beat the #8 guy in the division in Canelo.

Its too early to tell, one thing i can say is that Vargas was a huge puncher at 154 and is the same size as Alvarez. Canelo hasn't fought a lot of quality, full fledged junior middleweights and Vargas was supremely skilled and could truly crack. One i will say is that Vargas looked better earlier in his career. He never had any moments the way Alvarez did against JM Cotto. Vargas treated lesser opposition the way he was supposed to, he blew them out. Plus he fought and beat the much better opposition even before Trinidad.
