I think Russell will box PDL's ears off.
Other less talented guys have. All he has to be afraid of is the bomb.

If he fights smart he can win a wide ud.

This is a good step up in competition for Russell. I like the idea of this fight happening.

I really want to see if Russell looks as spectacular against opponents that come to win and can push him a little harder.

If they get to pick a champion PDL is thier best choice. He throws wide punches and his footwork poor. I don't think Gary wants John, he'd have to go to Indonesia and probably lose a decision there. He turned down Fortuna, so he knows that door is closed. He's not mentioning Mikey and Salido or Dib are much slicker than PDL, so he's pretty much going the path of least resistance.

Timing beats speed and Ponce has that power but it really is only a punchers chance. His only chance is to catch Russell and that is not easy against the youthfull speed. Russell's style is all wrong for Ponce....the speed with the angles will be too much for Ponce to deal with. Russell 12 round clear decision.

Last time I heard this was from Teddy Atlas when Fortuna fought Yundale Evans and we know how that turned out.

According to sources with knowledge of the details, Gary Russell Jr. (19-0, 11 KOs) is not going forward with a planned IBF featherweight eliminator against Luis Franco (11-0, 7 KOs). On May 31, a purse bid took place at the IBF convention in Honolulu, Hawaii and Gary Shaw, who promotes Franco, outbid Golden Boy Promotions to secure the rights to promote the fight. The winning bid was $220,000. Golden Boy wanted to place the fight on their Showtime televised date of June 30th. Shaw reportedly had other plans and was looking to place the fight on an HBO televised date. The exact reason for Russell's withdrawal is not confirmed, but sources indicate the reason is not injury related.

When did he turn down Fortuna or Dibb?
