Let's put it this way. The kid won a close decision on the scorecards against a dangerous fighter who has lost 7 of 10 fights by decision over the past 3 yrs. The kid was rocked by the first flush right hand he took and dropped by the 2nd.

The kid has good aggressive fighting instincts, a decent chin and pretty well dominated the scoring in my view, but he has plenty of work to go before challenging for a title.

Let's not forget, the kid is only 19 years old! What were you doing or are doing at 19? I'd say it was an excellent test for him. You have to get knocked down to see how you can handle things. Also, getting knocked down by this guy can't be seen as a bad thing. He has 26 knockouts outta 28 fights! He definitely has power. You know when you got 2 power punchers in the ring, they gotta give respect to each other or someone is gonna go down being careless(Cotto-Torres). What was good though is that Rey always stayed confident and to his gameplan which was to work the body early then go for the head in the later rounds. The knockdown didn't discourage him which was a good sign.
Some side notes. Anyone else think this guy looked really big compared to Rey? The showing replays of only the mexican guy did annoy me a lot. It was like, round after round you wanted to see the replay of these punches that would knock Espinosa back or move him, yet all I kept seeing was Espinosa throwing a jab or counter punch at Rey. I mean cmon!

his opponent was huge. That doo musta been a super featherweight or sumthin. You can easily see that the size advantage belong to the Mexican.

congratulations! getting up after being KDd by a known puncher, who incidentally was physically bigger, and proceed to beat him up tells us something about Rey's character. i like that in a fighter, that's what champions are made of.

If it was a 10 or 12 round fight, Rey would have KO Espinoza. His opponent has run out of gas in the 8th round.

Good job Rey Bautista, now go spend the new year with your girlfriend and show her why they call u BOOM BOOM.

i am a little bit edgy here, Boom Boom's first tough fight and he got rocked and kd...

but its nice to hear that he did not loose composure when he got kd and continued fighting the gameplan...

I really hope he learn a lot from this experience and give him two years he will be a champ...

I have read somewhere that this fight will be the basis of choosing Boom Boom's next fight, so what you think guys, another step up? against a top 10 contender?

IMO Bautista need a few more easy fights to tighten up his skills. This guy he fought tonight is a bum who was throwin wild shots.

Bautista coulda made an easier work if he wasn't rushing to knock this guy out. Clearly he is still young. He got caught with some of the most telegraphed punches I've seen. It's all becuz he wants to KO this guy quick.

He'll improve and definitely will be champ!
