I give Floyd a ton of credit for literally fighting him off when the boxing wasn't working, but it was troublesome and a definite sign of aging that he couldn't stay away in the first place. Cotto's attack is VERY basic. Simple footwork, not terribly fast, and similar combinations and patterns reused repeatedly. And still, Floyd was bothered. He's nearing the end.

It seems to me like he's waiting for Canelo to explode to fight him, and this is, to me, a mistake.
If you want Alvarez, take him now. Don't meet him when he's two years better and you're two years worse. I also think a Martinez fight, which Floyd is considering, is simply not winnable for him anymore.
More than 10 years ago Jose Luis Castillo was all over Mayweather with that same "basic" attack.

They kill me with that. Guys that have never stepped foot in a ring their entire lives, referring to Cotto's technique as basic. Cotto, a guy, who's fought in the ring for more than two decades. Lol. Could it be that Cotto is so good, that he makes something that is difficult to do, look basic and easy? Comedy man.

I think at the rate Floyd fights he has got 2-4 fights (3-4 yrs). I totally concur Martinez is a no go for him....Berto at this point could land a hard one...you never know....

It's the manner in which Mayweather dispatches (and always has dispatched) opponents that makes him No.1.

People can speculate about 'fear' and 'ducking' all they like but it's still very difficult to see how Manny Pacquiao would defeat Mayweather based on their respective sets of talent.

Pacquiao has struggled horribly to close the distance in his last two fights against an average athlete/superb boxer in Marquez, and a superb athlete/above average boxer in Bradley.

The reality seems to be that although Manny can still look very impressive in exchanges, a counter-puncher who can do a good job of keeping him outside of trading range will make him look very ordinary. Marquez doing it was one thing, given that Marquez is an exceptional counter-puncher and a persistent puzzle for Pacquiao, but Bradley doing a decent job of it was another matter.

Bradley didn't throw a whole lot back, but he made it very difficult for Manny to find him.

If Bradley is difficult for him, then you have to think Floyd is going to be next to impossible. He just won't be able to close the distance in a manner that won't involve him over-extending and leaving himself wide open for counters. That's a bad state of affairs when you're fighting Floyd Mayweather.

If it is so easy to achieve a 43-0 record against the kind of opponents that Floyd faced, don't they wonder why no other fighter yet has been able to duplicate this? And become the highest paid athlete in the world at the same time? This is mediocrity? Lol.
