Comments Thread For: Daniel Geale To Be Stripped if He Doesn't Face Golovkin

The World Boxing Association is planning to strip Daniel Geale (28-1, 15KOs) of the middleweight "super title" - if he moves forward with a planned rematch against Anthony Mundine in early 2013. Last month in Germany, Geale won a twelve round split decision over Felix Sturm to unify the IBF/WBA titles. The WBA had ordered the winner to fight "regular" champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21KOs) next.

The WBA made the right decision.

Too much avoiding and ducking going on in the sport of boxing.

That would be a good scrap so I would like to see it but Geale just won he should have a year to see his mandatory, I don't see the harm in him getting an optional defense especially if he is doing it early in 2013 that leaves plenty of time to see Golovkin.

But yea it looks like he will get stripped because there is probably more money in the Mundine fight in Austrailia, where as if they waited the fight between Geale and Golovkin would be more likely. Very short sighted, IMO.

They aren't giving Geale enough time imho. Sturm's bitch-ass had the opportunity to defend against GGG and never did. Why are they forcing their new champion to take a mandatory immediately? Hopefully, Team Geale can sit down with both the WBA/IBF and work something out.

The WBA gives "Super" champions all kinds of breaks. Sturm, John, Khan, Mayweather,Cotto, Moreno, Ward most of them generate money, and the WBA does not really force them to face their mandatories, in return they have the "regular" champion to defend the titles. Just another way to have more sanctioning fees.

Golovkin has trouble finding decent opponents because of his feared, awesome punching power. So hopefully at least Geale is willing to fight him. But i guess its an Promoters-decision anyway, you cant blame Geale. He went to Germany to fight Sturm, a guy that had some gift decisions already but Geale came to fight and to win and he actually won. Im sure he would also fight Golovkin but like i said its an Promoters/Managers decision.
