Bute won me over as a fan for the heart he showed to stay on his feet during the onslaught and the dignity he showed in defeat.

Yes, Froch has many things Bute didn't want to see: A long and effective jab; strong chin; his right-side body hidden; high punching volume; straight-hooked right... etc... Terrible match-up for a south paw counter puncher...

Bute was long under pressure, as no big names wanted to fight him (Kessler, Pavlik, Ward)... Lucian desperately looked for a significant fight (as Golovkin does now), and team Froch was smart enough to lure Bute in UK... When coming to Nottingham, Bute was both over-trained and out of shape -- because he suffered a leg injury shortly before the fight --, he looked drained at the weigh-in...
Bute mentally collapsed while stepping to the ring (when I suspect that he finally realized the actual big picture he was in), and he totally collapsed in the third round, while seeing that he cannot perform his in-and-out usual game without being hit hard by Carl... One might like the fact that Bute acted as a proud man, and took the beating til the bitter end -- I don't... In my opinion true manhood doesn't consist in entering the ring destroyed already, rapidly taking all the beating you can take, and grab a big payday... Unfortunately boxing is also a business and this remain to be proved by the Froch-Bute rematch, next March...
