Comments Thread For: Oner: I Am And Will Stay Odlanier Solis' Promoter

Ahmet Öner, president of Arena Box Promotions, reached out to Boxingscene.com Monday evening to clear the air regarding his current status with heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis.

A recent report suggested that Solis’ recent hiring of attorney Gaby Peñagarícano was the first step towards breaking free from Arena Box. Solis last fought in May, scoring a 12-round decision over Konstantin Airich in his lone fight since an anticlimactic 1st round injury TKO loss at the hands of Vitali Klitschko in March ’11.

Solis’ handlers were in negotiations for a December 22 showdown with Tomasz Adamek, a bout which would have aired on NBC. Adamek and Main Events opted to move in another direction when negotiations stalled, instead coming to terms for a rematch with Steve Cunningham.

oner has a point...what exactly has gamboa done since bailing on him & how much money has he made since? solis has bailed on 2 fights. one vs lief larsen for a shot at adamek & then priced himself out. he is making bad decisions. i hope he doesn't end up like juan carlos gomez(broke) or jose luis gonzalez who partied himself into oblivion...these cuban defectors need to realize once you get off the island it doesn't mean everything is going to be handed to you just because you won a gold medal. bad business decisions on both of their parts. you want out of your contract then honor it until it expires. solis got 1.8 million vs vitali so hopefully he has been smart with his money...

This sounds familiar. Same thing he said when the rumors about Gamboa going with Floyd started floating around. Fkin snake.

You don't know **** about boxing Joe.

Odlanier never bailed against Adamek, it was Oner who decided to pull out of the fight.

I was wondering what happened to Solis. I watched a recent fight of his, and he was a fat mess. It's a real shame. He has so much talent. He is more talented than David Haye.

Solis is 32 now. He doesn't have that many good years left. He has to get himself in shape and make concessions when negotiating. He doesn't have the opportunity to be picky. He should also be aiming for 3 fights a year minimum.

It's sad to see talent wasted like this.
