You didn't have to say that he was predisposed to using drugs. Your idiotic statement above implies it! 'Using drugs is only a symptom of the disease...' man... do YOU even 'know what YOU mean?' I've heard ******... but that would have to top all the ****** convictions i've read in my whole life! Congratulations!!
In case you didn't notice, we're human, which means, we are 'creatures of habit' and to suppose that USING drugs is ONLY a SYMpTOM of a non-existent disease? Are you ignorant or just ******!? USING drugs is a SYMpTOM of a bAd dECISION!!!! To disagree with my statements is to suppose that NATURALLY, some of us HAVE a genetic predisposition to taking drugs! To further comment... EVERYTHING on here IS speculation! So yes, i agree... i AM speculating! However, in reference to you, i'm quite confident i'm not. Your little uneducated equation is ridiculous! ...unless of course, you and Hatton have similar 'symptoms.'
Anyone who agrees with YOUR garbage statement is a dumb ass!! blame the pill, not the man right? You're gonna be a ****house father if you ain't already one! Keep findin' excuses to pass the blame but it's gon' catch up with you... just like it caught up with Hatton!! You both tell gooooooood stories!
Addiction can manifest itself in all kinds of ways ********, sex, spending to much money, overeating and abusing drugs and many other ways. They are all symptoms of the disease. It is a disease of the mind, addicts are not wired like so called normal people. And you at first agreed that addiction was a disease and now you don't what is with that? But who cares because you don't have a clue.
And it is not just my opinion it is the opinion of Narcotics Anonymous and the thousands and thousands of addicts that are part of the fellowship all over the world. And it is also the opinion of many of the other 12 Step fellowships dealing with addiction. So, there are plenty of your so called "dumb asses" that believe what I have said. And if you don't believe it find an NA meeting and read the Basic Text its all there in black and white.
Or simply look up the AMA because they have labeled addiction as a disease since 1956. And they are the professionals. But in the end it doesn't matter if you do anything or even agree with me. Because no one in NA or any other fellowship needs the approval of some closed minded nit wit on a boxing forum.
In closing I will say it again I cannot and I will not speak for Ricky Hatton. And by the way I have two children that are both serving their country overseas. And they are both well adjusted young men that I have great pride in. And they are no where near as ignorant as you are.Last edited by Ravens Fan; 11-08-2012, 12:55 AM.Comment

I wasn't going to respond and by now you may never read this but I felt I needed to. Let me see if I can simplify it for you.

Respectfully, I AM VERY grateful to both of your sons for my freedom and i pray that they are always safe! That said, this does not mean that i do not think that you have taken an ignorant position on this topic.
Our grounds on this issue is 'science vs nature'. Your views are based on a scientific evaluation, whereas, my views are based on the natural function of our bodies and what 'I' understand as common sense.
I actually wrote lengthy dialogue in response to this topic and realized that maybe i'm just not wording things clearly for you. And in my frustration, i googled the issue and came across a website where these views were debated. I ask you in all respect if you would read this open-mindedly with intention to understand MY position, as well as your own. If you can be bothered, read some of the comments as well
Let me know if this makes sense to you. And if you still feel the same way, then as i had originally suggested in an earlier thread, maybe we can agree to disagree.

Listen, i never agreed that this was in any way a disease. And to quote you, 'don't bother looking for it because I never made that claim and never will'.

And the AMA's opinion may be based in scientific evaluations but mine is not. Mine is based on my own experiences and I understand that I am wired differently and I really don't need to read anything else to try to convince myself otherwise, simply because I have lived it. And my issues with you are really not on what your opinion happens to be and its really all about your approach. Because you call people dumb asses and question their parenting skills just because they have a different opinion then your own. When in reality you have no clue who they are or what they have done. Well, that tells me that you are actually the one who might need to be working on open mindedness. Good luck to you.Comment

Actually you did agree, these are your words, "I agree. Addiction IS a disease." But, you are free to change your opinion for what ever reason.
And the AMA's opinion may be based in scientific evaluations but mine is not. In your previous statement, you stated that the AMA 'labeled addiction as a disease since 1956' and now... you wanna say their evaluations were scientific and yours is not? Is there anything that you have said regarding 'addiction' that you are actually sure about?
To be brutally honest sir, the more you respond, the more i'm actually startin' to believe that... maybe you do have a disease. And it's a mental one. You CHOOSE to believe that you're 'wired differently' because that gives you an excuse to blame YOUR bad choices on something other than yourself... ANYTHING else that will help take your guilt away and you know what i noticed? These symptoms are very apparent in 'pathological liars'! So yeah, you may have lived this experience as you say, but it sounds to me like you are still (to this very day) tryin' to convince yourself that this is a disease because you refuse (for whatever ridiculous reason) to believe what your conscience and logic have been tellin' you this whole time... that your 'addiction' is actually the outcome of your bad 'personal' choices'.
Until you accept that reality, you are going to keep fighting these internal demons for the rest of your life. And THAT is why i labelled you a 'dumb ass'! Simply because you are allowing this fallacy to misrepresent itself in your mind and it is only a matter of time before you crakk and your sons AS WELL as your loved ones will be affected by YOUR decisions!
You are not rehabilitated sir! You may think you are but you are not. From everything i have read from you, it sounds as if you don't even know what that means! U need to take ownership of your actions and stop puttin that b.s. on a drug or disease or whatever it is you think you contracted 'addiction' from.
No thanks sir. You KEEp that good lukk!! You're the one who's gonna need it!Comment

Ricky Hatton has revealed how close he came to suicide during his three-year break from boxing.
The 34-year-old Briton, who is about to relaunch his career with a fight next month, slipped into depression after a second-round knockout by Filipino Manny Pacquiao in his last fight in May 2009.
Hatton, who won world titles at welterweight and light-welterweight, says that, during the worst bouts of the illness, his girlfriend had to take a knife from him to stop him hurting himself.
"I was near to a nervous breakdown; depression, suicidal," he told BBC Radio Five Live on Sunday.

Lost a lot of respect for Hatton with millions in the bank, good health, punching above his weight girlfriend, two kids, a loving family, an adoring public and the guy comes out saying he wanted to commit suicide.
When there are people out there with lives full of tradegy and poverty.
Sorry but Hatton needs to man the **** up.Comment

Maybe you didn't understand me when i wrote it. THAT THERE... is what i call 'sarcasm'!

However, there is one thing that you said that I actually do agree with and that is that its a mental disorder. I agree with that 100%. As far as me being rehabilitated I never made that claim and its also not possible because the disease is incurable and fatal and mine is only in remission.
You also have no idea of the choices that I have made or what I am all about or what demons I deal with. But you are free to continue to fantasy that you do I really don't mind. I will also say it again no one in NA or AA or any other self help program needs your approval. Because in all honestly you are just not that important.
As far as choices are concerned, today I am actually making healthier ones. Therefore I choose to no longer talk to you because you are actually full of negativity. And you should really stick to talking about boxing. And hopefully you know a little more about that subject matter. Because with anything else you seem to be way out of your comfort zone. And that is made apparent by your name calling and overall foulness.
In closing I will say that I hope that no one in your family or anyone that is close to you ever needs help with the disease of addiction and its left up to you to make the decisions. Because with your attitude they have little hope and most likely they won't survive. By the way saying "I agree" doesn't sound like sarcasm. Good day and goodbye!Comment

You start name calling and personally attacking me and you think I am one with issues? Now that is funny lol. I have not attacked you personally while you have consistently attacked me while I have tried to be respectful. I have to wonder what is missing in your life that makes you that way? And by the way there is most likely a 12 Step self help program that can help you deal with those issues. But most likely your are in denial and can't see through it.

Lol@your first bolded statement!! You really needa get over your emotional n over-sensitive position n start usin' your logic! MY logic tells me that anything i say... WILL be 'negative' anyway, because you already made up your mind before i even wrote anything 'constructive' that that's what it was gon' be. You have convinced yourself that you are beyond any help unless it is something that will kill a disease. Then again, you don't even believe that because you told me before that you don't believe in AMA's 'scientific evaluations' straight after you quoted them to support your argument! Hmm... that would probably explain why i think you have a 'mental' problem! So don't put that on me, blame yourself.
Look, i'm tired of people feelin' sorry for themselves n expectin' others to say 'please' n 'thank you' before they actually make changes for the betterment of their own lives. Stop waitin' for change to come n go out n MAKE it happen! Otherwise, you go rite ahead n put the blame on a 'disease' all you like sir, but remember this... when treatment n medication no longer work or are all ran out, don't go 'round pointin' fingers at nobody but yourself!
I'm a respecter of no man who ain't respect himself! That includes family! My kids ain't gon' have YOUR 'disease' problems n here's the irony... if they did, i agree, i wouldn't be able to help them because it is THEIR choice. If i told them to put the blame on a 'disease', i'd be lyin' to them n then they'd never get rid of the problem! So if i agreed with YOU, we'd bOTH be wrong!!
There comes a time in a man's life when he needs to take ownership of his own actions, but for you, that day may not even come. A lot of people seem to think they don't have problems, but that's because 'something' or 'someone'... has taken the blame! If i really didn't care sir, i would not have wasted so much time on this thread! I'm a realist. I call it how i C it n i tell it like it is, but you go ahead n cry wolf all you like sir. Just know that your method of 'rehabilitation' is flawed n your personal security is on borrowed time.
You gon' get in a heated argument one day(if u haven't already) n you gon' tell your wife that it's your 'disease' kikkin' in again n she's gon' turn to you n tell you she understand, but i'ma tell you rite now... u can only use that line so many times. Hatton did n look where it got him? He's now a few excuses short of a divorce!
F.Y.I. I'd appreciate it if you don't take my statements outta context. If you read the whole paragraph you would understand that my line about 'disease' was ALL sarcasm!
You should'a just left it at us agreein' to disagree but you wanna drag this on n make a damn fool of yourself, well... once again, that's YOUR decision!
In a make-believe world where man is the victim n actions are the disease, i MIGHT just respect you!!
p.s. before you wanna twist things again, that last line was sarcasm!Last edited by panicchaser; 11-11-2012, 11:32 PM.Comment

by Universal definition, Addiction is: the 'state of being' enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma. If it were a disease, WHY would they not say it?

If you are not making stuff up when did I state that I disagree with the AMA? Honestly I am not a doctor or a scientist, actually I was a history major. So, I truly have no concept of how the AMA goes about classifying diseases whether it be cancer or AIDS or even the disease of addiction.
I also have really bad arthritis that is robbing me of the use of my hands. With that said I also have no concept of how the AMA went about classifying arthritis as a disease. But that doesn't mean that my hands hurt any less and I have a clear understanding that I have the disease.
However, I will tell you what I do know, and that is that the AMA has classified addiction as a disease for 56 years. And if you want to know why they classified it as a disease you will have to ask them. Because I have no clue and unlike you I don't pretend that I have all the answers. And I honestly don't need to know. I just know and understand what I have to do to keep mine in check.
I also believe that I am a pretty opened minded person and I usually have no problem listening to both sides of an argument. With that said and as I said before it is not what you are trying to tell me that is so negative it is the way you are saying it that is negative.
You also seem to be taking this all personal, and maybe that is your problem? Is it possibly resentments towards someone from your past? Maybe that is the reason that you come across as an angry an pompous a$$. And no one has to be overly sensitive to see that. Because all they really have to do is read what you have said and it makes it pretty obvious. So, at the very least maybe you should try working on your anger issues as well as your people skills.
In closing don't bother responding because I will not read it. Because I really am done talking with you and it really will be nothing but a waste of your time. Goodbye!Comment

I really don't know why I bother? What the hell I need to kill some time. Let me try to explain it to you. I have been clean for 25 years, if you even understands what that means. So, please don't try to tell me that something is flawed when it is beyond obvious that you truly have no concept of it. And you are also making stuff up as you go.
If you are not making stuff up when did I state that I disagree with the AMA? Honestly I am not a doctor or a scientist, actually I was a history major. So, I truly have no concept of how the AMA goes about classifying diseases whether it be cancer or AIDS or even the disease of addiction.

I agree with you when you said you did NOT say that you disagree with the AMA. I read your statement again and come to realize that i had not read your previous statement carefully, for which i do sincerely apologize. What you said is that 'AMA's opinion may be based on scientific evaluations but yours was not'. Fair enough. However, what i dO disagree with is that you think i make things up as i go. I don't claim to know all things and have not claimed to know all things, sir... but what i dO know, is my personal experiences.
Your personal experiences have brought you to the understanding and belief that addiction is a disease, whereas, my personal experiences have taught ME that addiction is a product of bad choice of which 'I' still believe Hatton is an accessory to, but i also understand that is MY choice because i choose to believe that he is, just as you are entitled to believe what you will believe and i can respect that.
I'm done with this mess and that's that! Take it to 100 if you want to, but I will lay this one to rest n leave it at that!Last edited by panicchaser; 11-12-2012, 11:07 PM.Comment
