Depression is a mental illness. It's often triggered by a catalyst, usually a traumatic event. In Hatton's case, his brain chemistry was probably thrown off-balance by his perceived fall from the top. Not difficult to understand.

One has no control over this event, only in the subsequent treatment. But it's extremely difficult to grasp what to do if you've never experienced it before. One who's never been depressed literally cannot comprehend the complete hopelessness it produces. Being materially wealthy, or otherwise successful, makes no difference. Life seems to lose all meaning.

Asking a depressed person to "snap out of it" or "man up" is like asking an insane person to "stop being crazy". I don't know if Ricky is playing up his experience; but if he was truly depressed, he was undergoing what can only be described as a living hell.

Ricky had the right mindset going into the Mayweather fight. He thought he WAS the best in the world and he had no reason to think otherwise. Which is why the Mayweather Hatton fight was a HUGE demand at that time. Only pactart noob fan boys want to act like it wasn't.

Like I stated after the mayweather fight, his career was over. So much so that I clowned the fools that thought Ricky was "back" when he beat Pauli.

He was done and mentally destroyed and having a crack head as your coach had fail all over it. Hatton had the mind of a true Champion when he was undefeated. It was after his “0” was gone was he not the same, especially with Sr in his corner trying to teach him how to box like Floyd jr.

He was done and mentally destroyed on every level going into the Pac fight and like I said having a crack head as your coach had fail all over it. Damn Floyd's **** really does stay all the way in your mouth 24/7.

        Hard work, dedication.

No he wasn't surprised that he was a big underdog, he was susprised that he was the underdog period. He thought he should have been the betting favorite against the P4P king. A truly humble warrior.

Sounds like someone's still a little upset. Simmer down, especially since I'm backing Hatton here...

That doesn't mean you're not humble, it means you're confident - at least outwardly. I mean Ive never heard a fighter in a big fight say they should be the underdog. Lots of people, myself included, thought it'd be a 50/50 fight. Easy to be wise after the event.

No but fighters with some sense understand that when your opponent is P4P #1 and when you got knocked out 3 fights ago, it's natural for you to be the underdog even if you don't agree with it. Hatton was genuinely shocked by this, that tells you how big his ego was.

I knew Pac would stop him, as did most people. I'm not surprised you thought it was 50/50, you're the biggest british nuthugger on this site.

Many people thought it was a 50/50 fight. It was partly cos I never rated Pacquiao that highly. I knew Hatton would lose to Mayweather.
