Within 24 hours of Hall of Fame boxing trainer Emanuel Steward's death, his legendary Detroit boxing gym had lost its sign.

The red-and-gold Kronk Gym sign at the gym was removed Friday at the request of Steward's sister, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.

Steward, 68, died Thursday in a Chicago hospital.

Diane Steward-Jones told the newspaper that she was taking things out of the gym, including the boxing ring and historic fight photos and posters, to "safeguard the legacy" of her brother. [Click Here To Read More]

thats bull****! how is tearing something down which manny spent most of his life building from the ground up "preserving his legacy"? the real way to preserve it is to keep developing world champions under the kronk banner.

and who the **** is gonna steal the kronk sign or a boxing ring anyways? only way ppl would ravage the gym to that point is if they closed it, but theres plenty of ppl steward worked with who could have ran the gym if she didnt choose to shut it down.

now all those fighters will have to go elsewhere. its not the pros im worried about though, sure it will be bad for boxing in detroit when some of that talent leave the city but the real issue is the kids. they might not have the option to box in another part of town much less another city.

Well I dont think she is talking about people breaking in and stealing it but if there is money owed or whatever the bank taking it and locking it up or the city closing it down and auctioning off its stuff.

It seems strange though only after one day. Something isnt right. She is talking about wanting to preserve his legacy but she just directly shut down his gym, took everything including the sign. There is no longer a kronk gym because of her.

Keeping the gym alive would have done more for Steward's legacy, I don't want to jump to conclusions but this definitely sounds shady.

I could understand taking memorabilia down(signed gloves, wardrobe if he had any at the gym & pictures, news paper clippings ect) but the heavy bags, speed bags & THE RING!! ¿WHO THE HELL IS GONNA WALK OUT OF THE GYM WITH AN ENTIRE RING!? & Closing down what took years for Steward to build up & that was & is HIS trade mark, Emanuel "Manny" Steward is "Kronk Gym"!! & she's shutting the doors & leaving people LITERALLY out in the cold & that's something Emanuel himself would have NEVER done!!Manny must be turning in his casket!!
