    Comments Thread For: Mijares Confident He'll Beat Marquez, Eyes Donaire

    Former champion Cristian Mijares (46-6-2, 21KOs) is hard at training in Torreon, preparing for his big fight with Rafael Marquez (41-7, 37KOs) on October 27th in Mexico City. The WBC has placed the silver super bantamweight title in the fight.

    Mijares has gone unbeaten since September 2009, winning ten in a row and winning various belts at bantamweight, super flyweight and super bantamweight. He expects to be the veteran and then he wants to move forward to a potential fight with Filipino champion Nonito Donaire.

      Beating Rafael Marquez makes you the #1 SBW and gets you a fight with Donaire.

      Donaire-Mijares, I can't wait. Donaire=The new Mexicutioner!

      ATG in the making. Arce, Mijares, and Rafael Marquez you can get it too, just win a tune up fight after losing to Mijares and you're next in line. Vazquez was stopped by Arce then fought a journeyman and earned a shot at Donaire.

      Donaire=ATG.

          If Marquez beats Mijares, Donaire's next opponents will be Arce and Marquez. Dude is on a roll.

            Wasn't Mijares eyeing Rigondeaux too?

              Donaire will give mijares a bigger beating than the one Darchinyan gave him (whom Donaire gave a beating to as well).

                This is a joke. WBC has the Silver title on the line when Nonito is the Diamond belt-holder and Mares is the WBC World Champion.

                WBC becoming a bigger joke by the day.

                  The Diamond belt is not a regular belt, it's just a trinket, a prize. There's no sanctioning fees attached to it, it's not defended like every other title.

                    I hope Marquez loses, we need to start getting these over-the-hill fighters out of boxing.
