I thought that it was a premature stoppage, I mean, it's a fight between two of the toughest guys in boxing, they trained for this type stuff...
Alvarado was trying to tie up, he was trying to hold, you could see, he was figuring it out. even if he went down, took a knee, or even if it was Rios in that situation, I think the Ref looked at it like, " whoever gets hurt first, I am jumping in" and I believe that is what was going through the Ref's mind because both of these guys were TEEing Off on one another and very accurately too.
This is another reason why if I was a manager/trainer/promoter of a fighter, Boxer or MMA fighter, I would NOT let them fight in California..... The Ref's have too much control in stopping fights....
they call fights WAY TOO SOON, ALWAYS.... be it a cut, headbutt, low blow, etc, etc. All the time this happens and it makes me sick.
now I am not saying this was one of those type situations exactly, but they do it too much and too often. also, this fight, pertaining to the Ref's decision, it's a flip of the coin, IMHO it was too soon, but it was a call that could've been the best call or the worst call in not doing so....
we could be talking about why the Ref didn't stop it, but then again, that aint the case....
I think Alvarado should've been given a chance, a few more seconds to see if he could stall out the action and clear his head.....
